Percy assisting on the EN means he was playing the final minutes with the game on the line, so the coaches must still like him, right?  Some kind of injury complication seems more likely to me.  (Which also ain't great news, though)

I don't know if CP read it wrong or if it was adjusted after, but the current boxscore doesn't have Percy assisting on the empty-netter. It actually doesn't even have him on the ice when it was scored. Not sure if that means much. It does seem a little like Percy hasn't taken as much of a step forward as maybe we'd have hoped he would this season. Maybe it's because of injuries, but it seems like Loov/Nilsson may have passed him on the depth chart.

Bah!  I don't know where that thought came from.  Yes, he wasn't on the ice and didn't get an assist- I don't think it was changed later.

Looking further back, the last weekend of the regular season the Marlies had 3 games in 3 nights April 17-19... Percy only played the first game.  Something is definitely up there, as he's basically played 2 of the last 6 games.  Prior to that he had played in 5 or 6 straight.

He assisted on the 7th goal of the game (not the Marlies' 7th and final goal), in the dying seconds of the second period, so perhaps that's the source of confusion.

Seems like MacWilliam's return to the Marlies pushed him out of the line-up.

That's an issue re: Percy.  From making the team on opening night, to not being in the top 6 of the minor league affiliate.

With Loov's suspension, it will be interesting to see if it is Percy who draws back in.

Knodel's been in the ECHL for most of the season and Valiev only has a pair of professional games under his belt. So if Percy isn't the one going in then it's definitely injury-related.

I am actually hoping it is injury related, as I do have high hopes for Percy as a part of the future of the Leafs.  I did like what i saw the first few games here with the Leafs - which obviously was not sustainable over the longer term.

Nilsson sat Game 1 but was inserted for Game 2 after Stuart Percy was scratched. Dineen wouldn?t give details for why, but it?s likely Percy is affected by some sort of injury. Leading up to Game 1, Percy wasn?t taking part in full team drills and was skating on his own prior to practice, trying to work something out.

?Injuries in the playoffs are something we keep to ourselves,? said Dineen. ?We feel Tom Nilsson was an excellent option to put in there.?

Can't wait for years and years of this from Sun reporters.

On the goal, Miele skated out from the corner and roofed it with a perfect shot. I guess I need to see the replay but from memory, I didn't see that as all on Nylander. Maybe he lost the race/battle for that puck (I'm not sure) but Miele had to have beaten one of the Leafs D on the ice: MacWilliam or Brennan to come out from the corner and get right in front of Gibson in the crease almost to roof it. And Gibson arguably dropped and moved a little soon on the goal as well.

So my reaction to the goal was not "OMG Nylander!!!" Maybe these was some other stuff that went on. I had the sound muted for some of it.

Marlies down 2-1 near the end of the 2nd

An unlucky bounce and it's 3-1 Grand Rapids with half a period left.

Edit: 4-1  :-\

It's too bad they couldn't finish this series off tonight. The Griffins will get a few reinforcements from Detroit for the next game, including goalie Petr Mrazek.

And Tomas Jurco is eligible too apparently.

I strongly recommend they take the approach of not messing around with a winning Grand Rapids lineup.

Jurco and Ferraro were top six AHL forwards for the Griffins Calder Cup Championship in 2013 and have played well since.

Marchenko was +22 and .39ppg for the Griffins this season - one of the Griffins better defenders (if that isn't obvious from his promotion to the Wings).

Of course, Mrazek was the Griffins 2013 Calder Cup winning goalie and had won the NHL stating job over Howard & Gustavsson. Mrazak has split his two games against the Marlies in the regular season in 2013 and 2014 (so basically meaningless) but did win his series over the Marlies 4-2 in 2013.

So the Wings loss was the Griffins gain: they add a decent/hot NHL starting goalie, a top 4 Griffins dman and two top six Griffins forwards who have won an AHL Championship with them recently.

Not good news for the Marlies. They may have missed a big opportunity last night to put this team away when they had the chance. That's a pretty massive talent upgrade.

Jurco hasn't played a single game in the AHL this season. That's kinda lame. Oh well. I wonder how a guy like him would feel about playing in the AHL playoffs. Goes from playing in the NHL all season long and competing in a hard-fought playoff series that ended in 7 games to joining a lesser team/league he hasn't been affiliated with for about a year.

Defenceman Alexey Marchenko has been the only player reassigned to the Griffins so far. Maybe the Wings have decided to give the players who weren't really a part of the Griffins team during the regular season the time off?

WINGS NOTES: Wings general manager Ken Holland said that Marchenko is the only player who will return to Grand Rapids to play with the Griffins in the American Hockey League playoffs. The Griffins trail the Toronto Marlies 2-1 in their best-of-five first-round series. Game 4 is Saturday at Van Andel Arena. Mrazek and Tomas Jurco are eligible to go down, however, Mrazek will shut it down for the summer while Jurco is likely head to the World Championships in the Czech Republic. ? Ferraro will not return to GR. He would have to clear waivers and the Red Wings are not willing to expose him.

Marlies might catch a break - particularly if Mrazek doesn't play for the Griffins ...

Potvin29 said:
Yeah maybe like you say a guy like Jurco they won't even bother sending down.

I just read that Ferraro would have to clear waivers to be sent back down, so that's not happening. Jurco would probably be a lock to join Slovakia at the Worlds if he wanted to go. The Czech's have 3 goalies already so Mrazek won't be going, but he only played 13 games in the AHL this season and the Wings might just feel that it's better to let the goalies who got that team into the playoffs play.
