Marlies Talk 14/15 | aka What's Nylander up to?

Patrick said:
Thanks for the clarification, I don't know why, but I thought he was older and had bounced around the echl a bit before breaking through.

He had a couple of short ECHL stretches and played on a bunch of different minor league teams because the Habs switched affiliates but I think what you're remembering is less about his age/time in the minors and more the surprise that an 8th round pick developed the way he did.

Anyways, with regards to Frattin, he's 27. In a "couple years" he'll be 29. Leaving aside the possibility of someone turning into a legit NHL player at this age you really have to wonder when it would ever be in the Leafs interest to really give him that shot over a younger player who was a legitimate prospect.

Or Nik you use Frattin as filler while a younger guy develops with the Marlies.

Even now the Leafs have lots of 22 or 23 year old players on the Marlies who would be more interesting to get a NHL look. Even if that ceased to be the case, and as they accumulate prospects and picks that shouldn't be the case ever, then the spot would still be better suited to a bargain UFA in the same vein as Winnik or Santorelli.

I would love to see Frattin make it in the NHL. Ideally, he comes up in the next few weeks and makes an impact, continues it into next year, and is traded for a draft pick before the deadline. Is that realistic? History suggests not...

Hey life is a crapshoot at best, perhaps he becomes a feelgood story most likely not, would be nice to see though. I like the guy.

That all sounds like good grounds for the team to make their decisions on.

The Leafs should give Robbie Earl another shot too, he's crushing it in Switzerland.

Fully agree. This is the kind of innovative thinking that leads directly to dynasties.

Ok the next time you guys have a player on the fringe who you would like to see make it, we will have some fun with you 8)
I just want to be able to say "Unleash the Frattin" and mean it.

If it makes you feel better just know that you can say "Unleash the Leivo" or "Unleash the McKegg" and it will be just as clever.

"Unleash the McDavid" has a real nice ring to it.

Biggs is done for the season. And right when it was starting to look like he might be a decent 4th line AHL centre!

Yes, he will be sorely missed.  Like, blink and you'll miss him (sorely).

Give Kadri an AHL "conditioning stint".  Helps the Marlies, helps the tank!    :P
