Marlies Talk

Eakins was probably just asked what he would think of Holzer being involved in a deal, since it is the day before the deadline.  Probably asked his thoughts on a number of players.

Where is that coming from? I haven't here one rumour of Holzer being traded. Why would they even, unless he's part of a bigger deal I suppose.

Eakins has been talking Holzer up all year.  The media caught on and was calling him the next guy on the call-up list for the defense.  Given the log-jam on the blueline, he's a candidate to be dealt because of a lack of space.

Remembering what I saw of him in the few Marlies games I have been to over the past two years, I hope they keep him.  He seems like the kind of defenseman who can excel defensively in the can't check guys in the defensive zone NHL.  He's big, but he's really mobile and plays a sound game by getting the puck off the glass or making short passes out of the zone. I think he might also be a guy who has the potential to be a stabilizer on the blueline, kind of like Gunnarsson in the sense that he's not the best offensive or defensive player, but has very few flaws in how he plays in either zone.  By being so sound, it makes their defense partner better because he actually knows what he is doing and when to step back.

Well that is where I am with this. I was just surprised to hear him as a possible trade candidate. I would be especially upset if he was traded due to lack of space for him, when Komisarek is sitting up in the pressbox.
We can afford to move a defenseman, we have pretty much all season long. I really think Burke needs to make room for these young guys, not contemplate trading them because they can't fit them on the team for others who are not doing anything other than cough up the puck. Komisarek has had his chance and I think Burke should move him, even if it costs another lesser asset to do it, as I said earlier today.

Marlies hammered Buldogs 6-1, Deschampes with 5 points and Owuya with just another good showing, which gave him four straight wins with just six goals against.

His numbers are insane: 2.07 GAA, .926 SV%  ?Mark (Owuya) is a very interesting prospect, whom we?ve done the least body of work on,? said vice-president of hockey operations Dave Poulin.

Scrivens? numbers are also amazing: 2,29 GAA, .916 SV%.

Marlies has to do something right, not just the goalies but the whole defense system, it is there, just apply it with the Leafs.

And they're doing that with Allaire doing his best to ruin them.
;D

Dunno, being on the Marlies I'd like to think that Allaire does not spend as much time with the goalies like he does with our NHL ones.

True, Toronto is pretty far from Toronto.  8)

Especially without those subways.

Does Allaire go with the Leafs on the road trips? Would be kinda hard to be at 2 places at once.

No idea, but here's one example of what he might do in a day:

TORONTO- At Tuesday?s Marlies practice, goalie coach Francois Allaire worked with prospects Ben Scrivens and Jussi Rynnas for over an hour on the fundamentals of butterfly goaltending. Later in the morning, he was at Leafs practice teaching the same techniques to James Reimer and Jonas Gustavsson.

And there are numerous articles on both Ben Scrivens and Mark Owuya (and I didn't even search Rynnas' name) with lots of Allaire quotes on both goalies, talking about their styles and the teams plans for them.

Can only assume he is actively involved with working with all the goalies.

Then I was wrong. I guess he doesn't ruin all goalies, just the terrible ones.

From the Twitter account of Dallas Eakins:

@dboyce47 is a character kid. Stopped by Ricoh Coliseum to say thanks, good bye. He is a good example of "being ready for your opportunity"

Not sure of line combos but...

Mueller 6'3", 232 / Colborne 6'5", 213 / Ashton 6'3", 205 (all "skilled" guys.)

:o

Those are dated numbers for Ashton. I think he's now 6'4" and 220lbs.

I also think Colborne is now 6'6" 219lbs.

Ryan Hamilton is another 230lb Marlies forward.

Mark Fraser, the dman they just added, is 6'4" 220 as well.

Rosehill and Orr are big guys as well.

Most of the Marlies are 200lbs+ - big team.

Kadri and Deschamps are the only "little" guys at 6 feet, 185lbs or so.

With Gardiner and Frattin most likely back in that line-up for a playoff run, it should be pretty exciting to watch this team play for something meaningful this spring. I'm really hoping to see something special from this Carter kid.

Wowza!.. All that more impressive... and cw, I was just highlighting the skilled guys but yeah, there is some impressive overall size on this team.
