Marlies Talk

Last 4 games for Rynnas:

0.50 GAA, .982 save %, 2 shutouts and he hasn't allowed a goal in 127 minutes and counting.

Smoking hot right now and if this continues maybe Reimer would be better served getting his game back on track with the Marlies and Rynnas recalled to back up Gus.

If Rynnas is playing well, why would you move him into a situation where he'll be sitting on the bench?

Well, Reimer should go down to work on things and your back up is going to need to play, case in point one of the Friday/Saturday games this weekend.  Right now Rynnas and Gus are the hottest hands in the organization and I think you  reward Rynnas with his good showing.  The way Rynnas is playing I think I have more faith in him then Reimer right now this weekend.  If sent down I am sure Reimer would be back after a couple weeks anyway.

Reimer is a great kid, he understands things, I would not worry one bit that he would take the demotion too hard.  I truly feel that it would be best long term for his career to go down to work on things.

The Marlies called up Mark Owuya.

I know depth is the be-all-end-all but he probably should be in the AHL at this point.  .936 SV% 5-2-1 in the AHL; .929 SV% 7-1-3 in the ECHL.

If they could find a way to flip one of their goalies in a trade I think it might not be a bad time to do it.

What am I missing something.  Did Scrivens get hurt last night?

Trade coming..... ;)

It seems like Scrivens is fine from a quick check on the web.  You wink but really there could be something in the cards here and it could be at any level.  It could be Rynnas being showcased, it could be Reimer on the way out and we will see Scrivens or Rynnas called up to back up Gus.  It could be nothing really but it really does seem odd to see 3 goalies with the Marlies, it makes absolutely no sense when you want to see your best guys getting games played at what ever level that is.

Now back to Owuya, the fact that he is 7-1-2 and .929 save % on a Reading team that is only 14-14-3-3 really is quite impressive.  Then his Marlie stats of 5-2-1 and a 1.78 GAA and .936 save % on top of that.  Nice to see all these goalie prospects doing so well.  If I am a team short on goalie prospects I certainly would be thinking Toronto right about now.

I think it would be insane to speculate that Reimer was going anywhere.

It could be Gustavsson being traded as I assume his value would be high at this point.

I doubt Gustavsson goes anywhere until the team is sure Reimer's got his groove back.

Unless a veteran goalie comes back the other way, either in the same deal or a separate deal.

That seems unlikely. The team has a young goalie who is playing well enough to keep them on pace with expectations. Why move him to bring someone else in who may or may not be able to really just do the same job? It would take one heck of an offer to make that happen.

i agree..there's no way they move reimer or gustavvson unless it's pretty much a sure thing.

Isn't Gus a UFA at season's end?

Yup

So. With all he's been thru here in T.O. who thinks he doesn't test the open market next season? Knowing that will likely be the case, Burke must be fielding offers for him now, during his hottest streak as a Leaf. My guess is he'll either be offered an extension real soon, or he'll be traded real soon.

Getting back to the Marlies, it should be interesting to see if Owuya gets one of the next 2 or 3 starts ahead of Scrivens. Should I start another goaltending conundrum thread for the Marlies? Why the hell are they running with 3 goalies right now?
