Fair enough, you think he's beyond Barb Underhill's help?

Yeah. I don't think it's a mechanical thing. It's a physical thing. He's just too broken down.

Man did Capgeek ever make me forgetful how things work with buyouts.

I think if the player is 26 or over it is 2/3 of the remaining spread over twice as long as the remaining contract and if the player is 25 and under it is 1/3.

Mike Richards is owed 2015/16 $6.0, 5.5, 4.5, 3.0, 3.0 so would that make his buyout:
2.0 (2015/16), 2.0, 1.83, 1.83, 1.5, 1.5, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0 (2024/25)?

There's a complicated formula for front loaded contract that winds up with the team paying back the cap savings on the contract. So, his buyout numbers wouldn't be quite that simple on the cap.

If the trade being discussed is Phaneuf for Richards straight up, Nonis should be fired yesterday.

Are you seriously suggesting that Phaneuf for Richards is a no brainer?

Really?

I took that as, if Nonis is considering making that deal he should be fired.

This is exactly what I meant.

Anyone have any info on Granberg? Is he an option in the near future (he's one of the good prospects right?)?

Granberg, Loov, Nilson, Percy and Valiev coming down the pike.  Finn should be in the mix as well as I would hope McWilliam would be

I'd be more than happy to move Franson and Phaneuf and let some kids play to see what we've got.

I'd rather keep those 2 then Gardner.  I don't care what advance stats people have that say he is good.  He constantly makes big mistakes that lead to goals.  For all the hate that McCabe and Phaneuf get for make mistake; gardner makes 10 for every one those guys made.  I have been patient with the guy hoping it would change as he got older but it hasn't.

The perfect scenario would be keep Franson but move Phanuef, Holzerheed and Bozak for RoR.
I don't want to give them Gardiner or Franson but think it will take at least one to make the deal work.

If Colorodo is willing to accept Franson as the centrepiece of a ROR deal (and I don't really see why; he's a UFA after this season) the Leafs would have to be absolutely bonkers to say no.

Gardiner & JVR --> O'Reilly + pick
Dump Bozak, Lupul for picks
Deal Robidas at deadline for pick, sooo many picks!!
Re-sign Franson
Next season dump or buy out @#$*(!*# Clarkson

So eventually:

Top 6: Kessel / Kadri / ROR / Nylander / Brown / 2015 pick (Zacha?)
Bottom 6: Gauthier / Winnik / Komarov / Holland if not always hurt / two Marlies and/or FA
Defence: Ph9 / Franson / Rielly / Polak / Percy / Loov
Goal: Bernier / Bibeau

8) 8) 8)

Gardiner's what, 24? So yea, I guess you've been patient in the same way that Leafs management in the past has been patient with the majority of their prospects.

But then again I think you're the guy who said that 200 NHL games = veteran status for any player so why I am surprised.

I'd still like to see what Gardiner can do with a different coach.  At this point, I would keep Polak.  He is one of the few guys on this team that has shown some character through this catastrophe.  I would be open for trading anyone else on the roster as long as it makes the team better.

Fun fact, Alex Steen was 24 when we traded him!

I don't want to give up on Gardiner either, but if our plan is to trade for somebody really good, we're going to have to give up players that at least have the potential to be really good.

I'd include Gardiner in a trade for ROR, but even that worries me considering Gardiner is signed to a very reasonable contract while we'll either have to either overpay ROR on his next contract or lose him after next season.

Unless the pick coming back with RoR is a really good one, that's not a good deal IMO. RoR is signed for more $ and shorter term than JVR and is arguably (I'd say anyway) a similar to worse player.

RoR can walk after his deal ends in a year or ask for more $than he is worth. JVR can't do that for another 3 years.

It just doesn't make sense.
