Official meeting place of the Kadri Cadre

I think for me it has less to do with scoring and more to do with rounding out his game so that he's good enough in all situations and would be the guy you'd want to see out there with a one goal lead or trailing by a goal.

His current +20 rating can be seen to reasonably speak to his defensive effectiveness, especially in light of his recent strength of competition and correlated +-.

Which scenario currently concerns you more? Personally I feel fine about the idea of Kadri out there when down a goal, and would only pick McClement over him to protect a lead with seconds left.

Faceoff wins would be a big one.  It's the next element of his game he is going to have to work hard at.

Personally, it's the fact that he is being protected a little defensively, but the main part is he needs to improve his faceoffs, you can't put him out there in the final minutes because he is slightly below average on the draw.

Also consider that he is not for the most part facing the shutdown attentions of most teams, for the most part all teams are still trying to close down the Kessel, Bozie and JVR unit.

In large part though, his numbers clearly represent a number one centre, I think most really strong teams ala the Penguins have two units that give teams fits, would many people argue that Malkin(not that I'm comparing players, just the situation) isn't a number one center even though he is not being used as one? I think Kadri is sorta in the same boat, I've argued earlier in the year that for the most part whatever line he is one is the number one attacking line, just not in terms of icetime and defensive responsibility.

Being able to throw him out there in any situation.

Kadri may very well outscore Toews for the next 5 years but Toews plays significant minutes on the PK and is also one of the best faceoff men in the league.....not to mention a Selke candidate.

Sundin played in every critical situation.

Not saying Kadri can't get there, but he still has a long way to go. He's bottom 5 in faceoffs on NHL.com for qualified Centres. 42% won't cut it for a guy that we want to play 19-20 minutes a game. Faceoffs can be taught but there are guys who simply cannot grasp that skill (Antropov is a recent Leaf that comes to mind).

As people have said, face-offs right now are an issue. So if the situation is a key defensive zone face-off within the last minute Kadri is almost certainly not the guy out there. Likewise, as his 0:09 SH ice time per game attests to(probably better than his +/-), he's probably not someone to rely on for a key penalty kill.

However like PG, LK and Wigwal have implied, all of that really just represents his next challenge and there's no reason why he can't become good on the face-off and a competent penalty killer.

I think it's this: give him a bit more time.  He has played 87 games in the NHL and is 22 years old.  If he keeps playing the way he is playing, he will definitely be Toronto's first line centreman for years to come.  And, for sure, the way he has played this year has reduced the urgency to go out and acquire a 1C.

I was thinking about it and, while not based on anything objective or scientific, I'd say Kadri's play has essentially meant 7-10 wins.  Really, NK and the goalies have made most, if not all, of the difference.

Still, one doesn't want to over-emphasize the importance of faceoffs -- they are a secondary skill.  Malkin is an example of a guy who gets top icetime, is terrible on faceoffs and is typically considered one of the top 3 centers league-wide.

Though, of course, I'm not predicting Kadri will be Malkin or that faceoffs are unimportant...

1 point in his last 3 games. It's over, guys. Clearly, Lupul was carrying him. :P

Kadri can't handle losing Lupul?

Another one of Randy's crazy practice line-ups that get forgotten about once the games start. Right?

He's heading for the pine.  That "assist" he got last night was all about O'Byrne.

I love the 'stay down, man' look he gives the Hab player after the hit.
