Official meeting place of the Kadri Cadre

@leafspr Nazem Kadri is the first Leaf to record 2 hat-tricks on the road in one season since Wendel in 1993-94 season. #Leafs #TMLtalk

Wow. What a stat.

not bad for an unfit fatty eh? ;)

This kid is something special. I don't think we are getting carried away when one considers he was drafted for this exact reason. He has put up points everywhere he's played.

Really, really liking his game. If he can get a little stronger and get better on faceoffs, the Leafs may have their 1st line Centre.

There's a point where we really can't use the quality of competition argument anymore. While I think it's still relevant, he's playing so well it really wouldn't matter who he was playing against, particularly with Lupul on his line.

Kadri's agent you mean...

So I think the issue of whether or not Kadri is the Leaf's "Next One" appears to have been settled. Carlyle was complaining 6 weeks ago that the media "just could not wait to annoint this guy".

Donald S. Cherry has seen enough. Kadri's agent must have fist-pumped and high-fived the room at this:

I would have Naz, Lupul and Phil on the first PP unit, but I'd keep at least one of them apart as ES, if they are together all the time it might be too easy for other teams to shut them down, if you can spread them over two lines it gives the opposition a headache and ensures at least one of the lines will have an easier quality of competition.

I'm as excited as anyone but I can't help but think some people are building this guy up so they can take great pleasure in knocking him down when the inevitable cold streak comes of at least he slows down.

There where people on twitter talking about how a 60pt season for him next year would be a disappointment.

Crazy and it will only get worse should he get heavily paid this summer.

Yep it is crazy the kid is 22 years old, we should be thrilled we have him for so long.  The guy he is being compared to, Doug Gilmour was 28 when he became a Leaf and think of all the memories he has left us with.  Kadri should be taken care of and hopefully he will be one of the faces of this franchise for a very long time.

the first line should be lupul-kadri-kessel.

Playoffs role around and Chara and a shutdown line are able to neutralize them, what do you do then?

I think people are underestimating the value of having them apart as long as we are winning, it gives other teams fits because they can't have their best defensive guys cover both lines.

Exactly. Having 2 solid lines that contribute the offence with regularity is part of the reason the Leafs have been so successful over the past couple weeks and why they're pretty comfortably in a playoff spot right now. Scoring depth is extremely important, and, now, the actually have some. Let's not mess with that. At most, Kessel should be out there with Kadri and Lupul late in games where the Leafs really need a goal - like the Pens do with Malkin and Crosby (not that I'm comparing the Leafs forwards to Malkin and Crosby, just the situation).

And another thing to keep in mind is that as good as Kadri's been, the face-off % is still a legitimate consideration when it comes to having him out there in crunch time. Having Kessel on a line that wins the puck off the draw more often than not, I think, is probably for the best.

One thing I think is going to get Kadri far is how unpredictable he is.  And makes it very enjoyable to watch him too.
You never know if he is going to shoot, pass or cycle the puck.  He is so quick and seems to pop out of nowhere with a loose puck and do something inelligent.
Compared to Kessel, who often does his big burst of speed, toe drag, quick wrister thing most times (which can still be quite lethal).

Sooooo.....a contract ala Skinner, Seguin, and Eberle this summer?  6 years, roughly $30-35M?

Or play hard ball ala PK Subban and make it a 2 year, $6M deal?

Really, quite the decision.  Personally, I take the latter and, at the ripe age of 24 and, presumably, after playing at the same high level, then blow the bank on him.

I'd agree on option 2.  Leafs have the edge with him as an RFA, use it while you can.  If he continues to play like this, then you sign him to the 8 year deal.

As of today, Kadri is the 3rd highest scoring centre in the league, ahead of Toews, Getzlaf, and Tavares.

Several knowledgeable, veteran posters have recently said they don't think the Leafs have a true #1 centre as of now. My question to everyone is, assuming so, what does Kadri have to accomplish in order to properly take the mantle of #1 centre for the Toronto Maple Leafs? I don't think there is a definitive answer, and I am genuinely curious as to what everyone has to say.

Personally, if Kadri can finish the seseason in the top 20 in scoring (highly likely), then maintain a .7 ppg pace in the playoffs and a .75 ppg pace over the first 20 games next season, I will be ready to call him a bonafide #1 NHL centre.
