I went to the Johnny Marr concert on Saturday. My wife is the massive Smiths fan, I just know a few songs here and there - but my god this guy rocks - I was shocked. I did not realize what a good guitar player he was, and so effortless on stage.

He sang a few smiths songs that I happened to know, and the rest was his own stuff, which I am unfamiliar with, but was honestly pretty good.

I caught his Coachella set on youtube and came away thinking the same.

Somewhat of a crazy week for me, 3 concerts this week. I've been on one already. Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, definately worth seeing. Johnny sure can sing. One of the best live bands I've ever seen.

Went to Field Trip 2013 yesterday. Pretty fun and interesting! Stars was a lot better than I expected, and I enjoyed Feist, my musical crush :)

#2 is just...wow.

First of all, that's disgusting. Second of all, should I know (or care) who Anton Newcombe is?

Yes, he's an incredible songwriter and a critically acclaimed one at that.  Has had his share of mental and drug problems, but that was years ago.  The Brian Jonestown Massacre is his band, and are great if you dig their "classicist" type of sound.

Huh. Went to good 'ole Wikipedia and I didn't recognize a single thing he's ever done nor do I know what The Brian Jonestown Massacre is. - Maybe I should be embarrassed by that. :-\ Anyhoo, any tunes he's written for another artist that did anything?

Nah, he's stayed really independent and below the radar.  The most recognized song would probably be the intro to Boardwalk Empire, that's a song of his/theirs called "Straight Up and Down."

Their earlier stuff has a real Stones influence.

Interesting that they have Noel Gallagher saying something moderately mean about the Kaiser Chiefs and calling Jack White "Zorro on Doughuts" but not the super famous instance of him saying that he wished Damon Albarn got AIDS and died.

I didn't see it mentioned elsewhere but the Rock and Roll hall of fame announced their inductees for this year. Nirvana, Kiss, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens, Peter Gabriel and Linda Rondstat made the cut.

Needless to say the advanced stats crowd is outraged.

Sounds like pretty good selections to me. I've been listening the crap out of Selling England by the Pound by Genesis recently. I didn't realize how good Peter Gabriel was.

I think the Rock and Roll hall of fame is kind of ridiculous regardless and it's really only noteworthy because of the sort of interesting multi-band jams they put together each year but, yeah, those are all decent choices.
