Official Ottawa Senators Thread

There are going to be some epic battles in the West this season...trotting out Karlsson, Burns and Vlassic on your back end ought to strike fear into a lot of opponents.

Their blueline is excellent, no doubt. Probably the best in the league now. I just don't think they have the firepower up front to make it out of the 2nd round.

Wow. So, let's just sum up. The Sens:

- Didn't get a definite 1st round pick in 2019

- Didn't get a prospect taken in the top 15 or a pick that's likely to be

- Didn't dump the Ryan deal

- Probably won't get two 1sts

I mean, on the one hand, that's not very good. On the other hand I think we all predicted that Ottawa wouldn't do very well here. But on the third hand...if you're a Dallas fan aren't you a bit upset you couldn't beat that?

It's sure going to test the theory that defence wins championships.

They balked at any inclusion of Heiskanen and Dellandrea.

Well, I think it's clear that Heiskanen was Ottawa being delusional about their position but even excluding those two I feel like it wouldn't have been too hard to put together a better package than what Ottawa got.

Which actually kind of leads me to my theory here. The fact that Heiskanen was such a well publicized sticking point between the two teams makes me think that Melnyk wouldn't have made this deal with Dallas, or a similar deal with Tampa absent Sergachev, so as not to look like they caved.

Wow, the Sens put a condition that if the Sharks trade Karlsson back to the East, they'll get an additional first round pick.

When I first read this I actually thought you were joking. I laughed.

Then I just read that this is really true. I laughed again.... much harder this time.

Ottawa is such a sorry joke right now that I almost feel sorry for them.

Zero percent chance of him resigning. The organization is currently a full blown burning dumpster fire. They created the mess and the market.

The return was better then what NYI for Tavares.

Sharks get a year of Karlsson and hope he has a bounce-back season. He'll certainly be motivated, playing for his next/last huge contract. Sens get what they can for his last year. What a difference a couple of years make (Leafs/Sens/Habs...) :D Assuming he has a good season this year, where does Erik sign for 2018-2019? Tampa Bay with Hedman and Karlsson would be a scary. We'd be crashing against them for the next decade. Would be terrific hockey :) Two teams fully in their Cup window in the same division.

It's going to be so much fun when Ottawa wins the draft lottery after they trade Duchene for a pair of wooden nickels. Colorado must be so happy.

This almost certainly doesn't happen, but the only thing that would make all of this better is if Duchene admitted he was wrong about the Avs and returned to Colorado as a free agent. They were his boyhood team growing up.

Not sure if anyone remembers him but Norris's Father is from Newfoundland and scored a World Jr Gold winner the year before the more famous John Slaney goal. I played soccer with him in my teens.

Josh Norris is Brady Tkachuk's BFF.

San Jose doesn't currently have a first for 2019, so this is... something conditional.

Melker Karlsson better be one of the players coming to Ottawa...

Disappoint.

As fun as it is to declare Ottawa dead I'm not all that convinced. Sure, on paper it looks like they're at a dead-end but I've felt that way before only to see them draft HOFers in the middle of the first round and all-stars in the 5th round and get all-world performances out of nobodies.

I mean, I hope this forces them into a real rebuild but who knows with them.

not to open old wounds, but on the 4th hand, the leafs side of the kessel trade was terrible

What the Pittsburgh one?

I think most of us are over that one.
