Preseason: Leafs @ Canadiens - Sept. 26th, 7:30pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

I think you'll see more than a few results like that this season.  Sheer talent let them overcome some slipshod defensive play and one bad goal.

They didn't even miss Tavares, who was invisible.

Awful 5 on 5, bad D, okay in goal, fantastic PP, PK not good even though 2 shorties. Have to be better.
This is the thing though, overall they played really poorly and still scored 5 goals. Was also the first time the entire lineup (more or less) played together and the first time the big unit PP was together in a game. Once they tighten up they should be lethal

Same old defensively. I don?t think there is any tightening up this D. Same soft D core.

Yeah, we were short three good to great regulars, whose replacements are at least two steps lesser than them. We played undisciplined and unsynchronized probably feeling out some new systems, and wrecked one of the best goalies of his generation for 5 goals and a couple of posts/near misses.

True, except I think Price, like Lundqvist did a few years back, has crested the hill.

Well to be fair isn't it Year 1 of his 8 year $80 mil deal...? :o

Marner is going to be one expensive meatball.  I think we might end up looking back on Dubas' "I'll sign them all" comment and shaking our heads a little bit.

We clearly need a better defenseman.  Granted our 3rd pairing may not be the main roster pairing but I'm not remotely sold on our defense pairings being good enough for a Stanley Cup.

Vegas got the final, Pittsburgh won with decimated defense. I mostly agree with you but just playing devil's advocate.

Just watched RedLeaf's game in six. Man, those two PPGs and two PKGs were soo fun to watch. Special teams will be deadly this year.

I expect the PP to be lethal, that was the first time they'd all played together in a game and it already looked really gud.

Maybe the Leafs should have extended Nylander last offseason. Salaries only go up, as the salary cap increases.

I think this is an example of Lou's "if you have time, use it" backfiring a wee bit here.

Unfortunately you missed the other 54 minutes where the leafs were clearly the 2nd best team on the ice.

Yeah why in the hell was there no talk of extending Nylander last year? That should have been done

Both sides will use time-based pressure points to try and gain leverage. As a fan, you wish they'd get on it sooner, but it doesn't seem to work that way. We will be seeing the same process play out again soon enough, with the NHL CBA coming up for renewal.

Sorry to bring that up. I'd rather not think about that, but it is what it is. I think Nylander will sign a bridge deal and will be back soon enough.
