Red Wings @ Maple Leafs - Apr. 17th, 7:00pm - TSN4, Fan 590

Glad to see the big offensive guys stepped up...you know, guys like Myers, Tanev, Mermis and Laughton...just like we thought.

Oh I agree, but I didn't think that was in Mermis' toolbox. Very heads-up play.

I have always advocated for giving a bit of extra rope and responsibility to the lesser lights in the games against the cellar-dwellers so the coaching staff can see what they have to work with. Keefe and most coaches really did not want to put their jobs on the line for that risk (so they played their coasting stars into the dirt and got the same result anyway)

I think that playing those guys in overtime, obviously other than Knies there, was a smooth move by the coaching staff to galvanize this bunch a bit before starting game 1. They already had goals by Myers and Tanev, so what the hell let's see Mermis and Laughton try to win it.

2024-25 .659 pts win% is the 6th best in Leafs history for a franchise that has won 13 Cups

Edit: worth noting the core 4 have delivered 4 of those top 6 seasons which are all top 10% results in NHL history

This last 10 games tells me the Leafs are different this year. They didn't "chase" the cookies and apples like last season....and fail one short like before. They calmly hit their targets.... yet more importantly, they found a way to win games even that were close around the end of the game.

But then again.... the last 10 years I've said "the Leafs are different this year" every single time.....and I was wrong. This time I said it at game 82 instead of many months earlier.

GLG!

I have not assessed the playoffs yet. But my guess is that the Leafs have risen from about a 6% chance to a 10% chance to win it all. A 10% chance is a contender - a decent shot.
If Tampa beats Florida, I would say Leafs have a greater than 10% chance to win it all. If Florida wins, the Leafs have less than a 6% chance.
