Ryan O'Byrne To Toronto

mirtle: Liles and O'Byrne were a pairing for Colorado in 2010-11 and played pretty well together. Believe O'Byrne has struggled since then.

He needs a good mobile partner for sure.  Not sure who he had this year but Colorado didn't really have much in that department anyway.

He can play the game as well as Mark Fraser can which leads me to believe that Carlyle can fix him.

That's what I(potentially) don't like about this. O'Byrne seems decent enough but I don't want Gardiner sitting for the rest of the year.

I know his advanced stats suck, but playing a more limited role against poorer opposition, back with Liles is a good fit. He is also a decent PK type of player too.

Can't have too many NHL-calibre defencemen as the team (potentially) heads into the playoffs and all that.

I think this is mainly a depth move, and shows you exactly what they thought of Komisarek.

Well, you can if it means that not all of them get to play.

To be fair, I remember when Boston won the cup, Seguin was a healthy scratch for a good portion of it (he only came in due to injuries to Horton & Krecji).  I guess part of it is a learning experience for younger players...

Sure, and if the Leafs were the sort of contenders that the Bruins were that year I'd accept that they'd be making moves at the deadline to bolster their vets at maybe the expense of the PT of some of the younger guys in the service of making a deep playoff run.

If, however, the attitude going into the playoffs is that it's kind of a learning experience for the club as a whole I'd want Gardiner to be a part of that.
