I know it's consistently called, but why is it a shooting foul when a player is knocked on a 3 well after releasing the ball?  Maybe I've always thought incorrectly that a foul is called because it is contact in the course of shooting and could affect the shot.  If it's already been released, why do you get a foul shot?

In general, if you make a bit of contact after the ball has been released it won't be called.  However, if you basically run the guy over after the ball has been released (see Amir's 6th foul last night) its going to get called every time.

I know, but what I'm wondering is why?  What's the rationale behind that?
I think it has to do more with intent than execution. You made contact with a guy who was shooting - that's a shooting foul. Yeah, you were late to the play, but your intention was still to make contact with a shooter.

Ahh, I wondered if it was as simple as the intent.  Thanks.

Keep in mind, I have no idea. I was just spitballing. I've watched the Raptors since their inception, but admittedly when something like that happens I don't really question it.

What a disaster tonight.  The Raptors field goal percentage and points in the  paint have been dreadful so far.  Second quarter  42-27 for the Nets,

Brooklyn, the opposite.

Still time for a comeback.  Hope luck is with the Raps.  C'mon Raptors!

Just so we are clear, Jason Kidd whines about the officiating.  Gets fined 25K and then the Raptors take 25 fouls to the Nets 14.  Hmmm.

I've had a few people tell me they think the NBA orchestrates things so series end up going 7 games. I've always been skeptical of these types of assumptions, but seeing how the Raptors series has been officiated and we are facing 5, and possibly 6, of the 8 first round series going to Game 7, one can't help but think there may be some credence to it.

Strange game. Obviously the officiating was a bit suspect (welcome to the NBA folks) but what struck me is how many open shots the Raptors missed and how many tough shots went in for the Nets. Anyway, the Raps are a young team and game 6 was always going to be a rough one. Let's pray they've learned from their mistakes and come out hard on Sunday.

The refs helped the Pacers into the 2nd round today against Atlanta.  I'm not optimistic of the Raptors chances tomorrow.

I don't know much about the NBA, but I know that this is just god-awful officiating. How much are the Nets paying that one guy? And why didn't Drake double it?

Raps stole the ball and had last shot to win the game.  Lowry went wild into the paint against Williams and Garnett, almost lost the ball.  Tried to get a shot off and Pierce blocked it.

Raps lose 104-103

That was a terribly officiated game.

That being said, there were a whole lot of one man shows out there for the Raptors and a good number of them ended in losses of possession.
