The Evander Kane Saga -> Traded to Buffalo

That's a steal for Buffalo I think. Kane and Bogosian are the two best players in the deal.

Maybe, but considering their respective injury histories, how many games does Buffalo have both of them in the lineup any given season? Buffalo is getting two very good, but very damaged players.

Believe the other remaining part in the deal beyond what @DarrenDreger has already reported is an unsigned prospect going from WPG to BUF

Would Brumistrov still be termed a prospect?

Maybe - but Dreger reported a "player" not necessarily a prospect.  So I don't know if maybe Lebrun just assumed prospect, or if he knows it's a prospect and Dreger just said player without specifying.

Wow.  2 of the Jets that I would have loved to see on the Leafs.  Buffalo won this deal in my mind....no offense to Stafford and Myers.

I give this deal to Buffalo as well.  If Kane gets his head on straight, Buffalo just picked up a very talented player.

I think Myers is one of the most overrated players in the league and Stafford has become a depth piece these days.  Winnipeg added depth, but they gave up the two best players in the deal.

I don't get this deal from WPG's perspective at all.

Sure Kane has to go but Bogosian is better than Myers. Stafford is a lot worse than Kane, so a 1st this year, last year (Armia) and a 2nd from last year make up the gap between the 2 sets of players?

Not for me, but what do I know.

Edit: Myers is an offensive D-man. WPG already has Enstrom, Trouba and Buf in that role. Bogosian was a defensive D-man with offensive upside, so Myers seems like something they already have a lot of. He's also not very good defensively. Stafford has Winnik-like production this year.

Thinking about it, I'm really not sure. Bogosian and Myers are pretty close in value. Both are young, quality defencemen with injury issues. Myers probably has a higher ceiling, though, so, I give the edge to Winnipeg there.

On the flip side, the Sabres get a young, physical power forward type, who comes with a significant injury he just had surgery for, as well as a substantial injury history for someone his age. He's basically a younger, more physical Joffrey Lupul. For that, they pay 2 quality prospects, a pending UFA rental (and former 30 goal scorer) and a 1st round pick in a deep draft. They also get a project goalie prospect, but, he has little value. They're really banking on Kane capitalizing on his potential while playing alongside of McDavid/Eichel. Winnipeg also opens up ~$5M in cap space this summer as part of the deal (assuming they don't re-sign Stafford).

Considering Winnipeg was pretty actively looking to move Kane, I'd say they did very well, and I actually think they might come out a bit ahead in terms of total value. If Bogosian and Kane were capable of staying healthy for multiple seasons, then, yeah, the Sabres win by a mile, but, the way it looks to be right now is that they added two very good part-time players for a number of quality future assets.

Not for me, but what do I know.

I think Armia is gonna be a heck of a player, a very probable Kane replacement down the line. Armia gets the whole rest of the season to develop in the A, not like Kane was coming back anytime soon anyway.

Bogo/Myers is kind of a wash in my mind. Lemieux looks like he could be a serviceable player and the first could be used in a deal to move up possibly. Stafford, well, maybe they needed a gritty role player. Not a terrible deal for either side to be honest.

Talk about a DOMINO!  The whole deck has been shuffled.

Is he the inspiration behind Zapp Brannigan?

I don't know what your definition of a "heck of a player" is so it's hard to tell what that means from a production standpoint (apparently David Booth is a heck of a 4th liner).

He looks ok so far in the AHL but not off the charts. Zibanejad and J.T. Miller had similar AHL numbers (if not better), are the same age and have been decent if unspectacular players in their NHL careers so far.

He's 22 this year.

At the same age Kane had already put up 107 pts in 187 NHL GP. He may offset some of Kane's production eventually, but I doubt he'll ever be a "Kane replacement" in terms of total production anyway.

Considering what Kane has actually produced for Winnipeg over the past couple seasons, there's a very good chance Armia could replace, or even surpass it.

Kane hasn't been the piece everyone's claiming him to be in the last couple of years. He wanted out and has an injury history and will be out until training camp next year. I don't see how if you look at it as a Myers/Bogosian swap that Armia+Lemieux+First for Kane + Unsigned Goalie is all that a bad deal for Winnipeg.

Stafford's in there too, but he seems to be a throw in.
