The Evander Kane Saga -> Traded to Buffalo

I think WPG is the clear winner in this trade.

You mean if the pick and prospects pan out, right?
The prospects are basically 1st round material plus a 1st rounder and Meyers for Zack B and a problem child.

Tyler Biggs was 1st round material, so too was Philippe Paradis. If there's one thing about the draft it's that there are no guarantees and there are more busts than sure fire NHL'ers (productive ones anyway).

Problem child? Sure he had an issue with teammates and or playing in WPG. That was news last summer. Seguin was a problem child and is now one of the best NHL'ers playing in DAL. Hull was a problem child. Problem children exist but if you find a way to make them happy and their good players then both sides benefit. Just writing "and a problem child" doesn't really give insight into the player moved. There's a reason BUF had to give up a 1st, 2 high prospects and a roster player. Because that "problem child" is a good player.

Time will tell, but this is far from a sure fire win for either side.

Yeah the odds of that really haven't changed at all. If anything this trade makes them worse this season.

I don't think it really has much impact on them this season. Myers for Bogosian is pretty much a straight swap from the Sabres' perspective and Stafford wasn't contributing much - though, very few forwards in Buffalo are.

Oddly enough, with all the recent events, I think there might be more chance they don't end up with McDavid. Edmonton losing Hall could be enough to sink them enough for the Sabres to make up the 4 points between them. If the Oilers can make up that gap, and someone else can win the lottery . . .

If EDM win it again, there's something seriously wrong with the machine they use.....

Oh, I'm not suggesting Edmonton wins, I'm suggesting they finish last but someone other than they or the Sabres win. That way, the Sabres don't get McDavid or Eichel - though, Hanifin or Strome are awfully nice consolation prizes.

Guess we don't have to worry about McDavid playing for Buffalo. That would have made me puke.

Why would you not have to worry about that now?  There's still a very good chance he becomes a Sabre.

I thought Buff gave up their first in the trade.

Edit: I see it was a later first round pick now.

Guess we'll see the 'new look' Buffalo Sabres next season when Evander Kane will resume his playing career.

As for the Winnipeg Jets, they won't need to deal anymore with the distraction that Kane had become.

An interesting wrinkle, apparently one of the prospects included in the deal (Brendan Lemieux) was refusing to sign with the Sabres:

His father/agent is Claude Lemieux.

Did Buffalo take one look at the Leafs and realize even they can't out-tank the Leafs and decided to get rid of their 1st while it still looked good?

They didn't trade their own 1st.

Reports are saying that Kane was also playing with broken bones in one of his hands and one of his feet. Dude is brittle.
