Hm? I don't think they've given a verdict on him yet either.

Will the Leafs even announce anything?

I thought LTIR only worked on what you were over by at the time that you file the LTIR. So if they have to file it at the start of the year, that's it, all they can cover is what they are over at that point in time. Can they file separate players at separate times? When does the bonus overage come out?
herman said:I could be wrong, but my understanding of the bonus overage is that it is just a lump that sits against the Cap hit at the end of the season, so technically, the team can accrue space throughout the season any time they are below the league Cap limit (paper transactions to the Marlies; deadline salary dumps) to bank towards chipping away at the overage amount at the end of the season.

LTIR space cannot be used to cover bonus overages. LTIR disappears the moment the regular season ends. Bonus overages aren't applied until after the end of season awards are handed out. Space can be accrued through other means, however, the Leafs are already technically capped out, but are compliant because Horton is on LTIR. Unless they can pull their total cap hit - which includes all healthy and LTIR players - down below the ceiling before the end of the season, every penny of bonuses accrued this season will coutn against the cap next season.
