The Official Complaint Thread!

Holy cow! That's some serious time off (though I know you wish it has been under different circumstances.)

Yeah. Well it was pretty much a month and a half of either getting worse or hitting rock bottom with the illness, and its a slow recovery from it, as my lungs were hyper sensitive to anything for another month and a half. I'd say I'm probably only 70% right now (still!), but I'd say thats good enough to work. Unfortunately I still have a ways to go before I can go back to the gym.

Beer prices are going up in Manitoba tonight, almost $4 more for a 24 of beer, as well spirits are going up 47 cents per 750ml bottle, good thing I drink whisky more so than beer!

Been dying for a Super Nintendo lately, and my birthday's coming up, so I thought I'd treat myself.

Found a good deal on kijiji in Ottawa, had my brother pick it up last Friday, and he shipped it via Canada Post on Saturday.

At the post office, the guy said it should be here Thursday or Friday, Monday at the latest if there's bad weather.  But it's now almost Thursday, and the only tracking info available says it was received at the post office last Saturday at 5:33pm.

I'm not panicking yet, because despite what the post office guy said, the canada post site says estimated delivery is next Wednesday.  But why would there be no tracking updates?  Has it just been sitting in the post office for 3 business days?  I'd just like it to at least pop up saying it's en route to Moncton or something so that I know it hasn't been lost.

He got insurance on it, but a working Super Nintendo with 4 games for a good price isn't easily replaceable.

we still have ours. And it still works. Unlike the fact we're on our second GameCube, our fourth XBox 360 and never replaced the dead Wii. I love 'Legend of Zelda' and will haul 'er out and play that every so often. :) The kids loved Goldeneye too (oops, that was N64), and the Mario game that came with SNES.....

oh, and the post office tracking information is always at least 24 hours behind. You'll probably have the set before the site's updated......

Thanks lil.

Have no idea what happened to my SNES.  Probably put it in the basement when I got my playstation, then it got destroyed by a flood.

I've got Legend of Zelda and Super Mario World coming as well as the console.  I hope.

As soon as the Canada Post staff get the high score it'll be on it's way.

So the other day my family went to the local Wal-Mart.  Since we have a 3-year old and 9-month old, I parked in the spot which says, 'Mom and Tot' (it was -5 out and we had a stroller).  Just as my wife and I get out of our car to unload the kids, the lady driving behind us looks over, points to my wife emphatically, and mouths "MOM and tot".  Initially I thought she was accusing us of parking in the spot as she didn't see our kids, only to realize that because I was there, we shouldn't have parked in the spot.

Needless to say we were peeved.  She parks in the next row over and comes out and looks at us, at which time I ask loudly, "What's the issue."  Her response was, "I'm not trying to start anything, but it says 'mom'.  That is all."  At this point our furor escalates.

As we get into the store, trying to digest the initial shock of it all, we are hanging around the produce section longer than expected.  I told my wife I was going to wait for her to ask her what her problem was, only for my wife to say she's not going to come in this way.

Well, low and behold she strolls in with her two sons 5 minutes later.  I approach her and ask again what the issue was.  Her immediate response was that I was "acting tall" (has nothing to do with the fact she barely clears 5 feet and I am over 6 feet  ::)) and that I was trying to scare her.  Anyways, she kept emphasizing that it says 'MOM' and that her husband would never park there if she was with her (good for them).  My wife told her it's a courtesy spot with the wording open to interpretation and she's being gender biased.  We proceeded to give her more a piece of our mind, even though she tried brushing it off by saying, "It says 'MOM', and I'll leave it at that."

Wow!  So, if you were by yourself with the kids and without your wife or the "mom", you aren't allowed to park their with your kids?  You should have asked her that one.  I swear, the nerve of some people.

Driving up Weston Rd from Hwy 7 from work yesterday and the traffic is usually crawling. Though, there is a left lane that acts as middle lane approaching Rutherford. A nut yesterday, bypassed all the traffic by going in the left most lane (its a long lane that eventually people use to turn left into Rutherford) and then making a abrupt turn back into moving traffic right in front of me. A few lights down he is the left lane making a left turn, I slow down and give him a look. The guy almost pulled a gun that's how he his reaction was because I gave him a look. Some people will break all rules, all etiquette and dare you say something!

One can only be as careful as they can.  When I drive, I try to be careful, sometimes giving leeway whenever I can and other drivers have been known to do the same to me.  But...sometimes...makes my head spin!

I was heading into work one day, and this guy was driving like his car was hooked to my bumper. I got to my turn, I indicated a right turn and slowed down to make it. As I was turning, the guy started honking at me and sped past me yelling and cursing etc. What he didn't notice is that he had drifted into the turn lane, which ends with a raised curb and he proceeded to smash into it, flipping his car on its side.

And that is why my insurance rates are so high.

Wrong, your insurance rates are so high (if you live in Ontario) because of Accident Benefits coverage and all the scamming that goes on in Ontario. Next time you get your renewal in the mail, look how much of your premiums are for AB coverage. I work in Insurance, I was a PD Adjuster (Property Damage) and handled all vehicle accidents/claims. You would throw up in your mouth if you saw what people can and try to get away with. I remember once a man had a claim on his minivan, rear end accident, he got an estimate, the front bumper ONLY needed to be sanded and painted, it had been scratched in the accident, I cashed him out for the repairs, which was about $350.... 6 people in the car were 'Injured', so I had to send the file to our AB department to handle the 'injuries'....  ::)

This is what you and I pay for, I have a tonne more stories just as bad or worse, I even knew a person who was legitimately rear ended on the 401. He was NOT hurt though, but he pretended to be. Every time he had to go to the doctor or treatment centre for his Accident Benefit claim, he wouldn't shower for a couple/few days, then use a couple canes to get to the appointment and claim STI's injuries (soft tissue injuries that can't be proven), long story short, he sued his own Insurance Co and got a nice $320,000 cheque... Again, we all pay for this as Insurance in Ontario is legislated by the government, FSCO, IBC etc... We need to stop people from taking advantage.

In Quebec none of this happens, if you hurt your hand in the accident, you get 'x' amount, if you lose your hand you get 'x' amount etc... Everything is predefined. Insurance needs fixing in Ontario, but it's not just that simple.

The sad thing is, there's no question that guy blames you 100% for his crash.

Cool. I didn't know that. But how come my insurance rates vary by postal code? I wasn't paying as much as I am now in Scarborough as when I lived in Bloor West Village?

I'd assume rates vary on the postal code, in manitoba I paid more up north in Gillam in the middle of no nowhere then I do in Winnipeg which makes no sense. You would think in Gillam with a way smaller population, less traffic, etc. The rates would be at least lower.

Insurance rates also take into consideration where you live, population density, how many accidents/claims in that area, is it high risk with thefts, vandalisms etc... there are many other factors. Your age, driving record, tickets, how long you've been insured for, has your insurance ever lapsed, have you moved Insurance Co's every few years to try and save money? (Insurance Co's typically don't start making money from a client until about 7 years, so when you move around allot, you really won't benefit in the long run, you may get sucked in for cheap rate for a year or two). All Insurance Companies use similar guidelines to underwrite a policy and all of that is filed with IBC. Insurance Companies can't just make up there own rules and charge what they want. It all has to be approved by a governing body. The longer you stay with the same company usually the better for you.

Ontario has 'No Fault Insurance' when it comes to PD Claims, it doesn't mean no ones 'not at fault', it only means if the accident happened here in Ontario, both drivers are insured and both their Insurance Companies are signatory to the DCPD (Direct Compensation Property Damage) rules in Ontario (which they would be if they write in Ontario). Then each person goes to their own Insurance Company to fix their vehicle, no money is every exchanged between companies, each Insurance Co. pays for their own clients vehicle. The fault is determined by the FDR's (Fault Determination Rules) legislated by FSCO. Every Insurance Company follows the same rules, we have no choice. You'd be surprised how many drivers in Ontario have no idea how Insurance works.

Ok, so idiot Scarborough drivers who crash their own cars in fits of rage affect my insurance, correct?

A small portion of your policy could be affected, but again, for an example. Your policy is say $1400/yr. Probably $900 of that
is the AB Coverage. The remaining is the cost of your collision, comprehensive, LOU coverages. Again, pull out your policy, the papers that came with your slip and see how much AB is costing you, it'll all be broken down. So that idiot person doesn't affect your policy too much, unless that idiot person claimed injuries when there were none...
