The Unofficial Fire Ron Wilson/Ron Wilson is the Greatest Thread

Funny that I'm talking about Reimer in the Wilson thread, anywho, if it wasn't for a nice save late from him on Staal, I think, the Leafs wouldn't have a point out of the mess so, yeah.

Maybe I defend them too much, maybe not.

I'm trying to look at the bigger picture... What is this now, year 3 of a 5/6 year rebuild? We have what - 96 points in the last 82 games? We've got a playoff spot entering the new year and nobody - I mean nobody here or in the media thought we'd be further ahead than we are now. Yeah, the PK sucks but we're going to fire the coach that to date has seemed to be part of the solution as opposed to part of the problem? Let's see how the rest of the season shakes down first... Either way, the 1 year extension changes nothing should a different voice be required at that point.

We're in a playoff spot now, that may change by Saturday night, Dec 31st, which would put us out of a playoff spot by the new year -- exactly like last season.

No, not really. At this point last season, our season was done.

THUMBS UP.

Guys, Zee's post isn't that tricky to understand. He didn't say "If we lose Saturday, then we'll have the same record as last year" he said that if the Leafs lose on Saturday they could be outside of a playoff spot, as they were last year.

Yeah, but it's a pretty bad comparison because, while it's a true statement, the degree to which we'll be out of the playoffs is miles apart. Last year was an insurmountable climb, whereas if we're out by new years this year we'll still have a fighting chance to get in.

It ain't over til the fat lady sings, or so they say.

I think we knew what he meant but were commenting on just how 'exactly like last season' it was but thanks for thinking of us.

But it wasn't a comparison. Again, he could have said "They're exactly the same this year as they were last year" if he wanted to. But the way I read it, because it seemed pretty straightforward to me, was that for all the talk of the Leafs improved play over the calender year the end result was one team that missed the playoffs and another that could very well be outside of a playoff spot.

Oh. So you knew what he said but were purposely distorting it so as to make it seem less reasonable than it was.

Carry on then.

Well I'm not generally a fan of throwing an overdrive on a tube screamer but the initial distortion was a bit fuzzy, the Leafs weren't out of a playoff spot because they lost the last game of last year, they already were out.

Chalk it up to 'writing is hard'.

No, Tigger. I disagree with your statement that Ron Wilson is the greatest coach who ever lived who's been robbed of the last three Jack Adams trophies.

See? It's actually super easy.

Can I interest you in a Marshall triple lead?

Let's give Wilson a lifetime contract he's obviously the best coach we can ever get!

Goooooooooooo Ronnnie!!!

He's O-for-his-extension -- and yes, I know it was awarded weeks ago but as far as I'm concerned it started when he announced it to the world with his oh-so-amusing Xmas tweet.

What witticisms will you favor us with for the New Year, Commander?

Almost forgot it's getting close to the time for Wilson to order up a dodge ball practice. His master motivation techniques pay off in spades with this team!

Has there ever been a coach who received an extension and got fired within a month?

I just read in the National Post Wilson saying his players are screening their goalie too much.  Is he Effing Kidding?  After three years of telling his players to concentrate on blocking shots has he suddenly realized that if the shot gets through the goalie has no hope of stopping it?

I'm still thinking it prudent to not panic retain Wilson for at least the rest of this season but I take a look at what Sutter is doing with the Kings (10 of 12 points I believe) and think hmmmmm...

I think with as close as they are now to a playoff spot they need to do something now.  If BB thought that by givingWilson the extension that it would prevent him from becoming a lame duck and inspire the team it is obvious he was wrong.  I have been preaching patience for the past three years but there comes a time when you need to act.  I remember Burke saying he is not afraid to admit when he made a mistake.  I think this is one of those times.

Again I just read again, this time on Canoe, that Wilson actually accused Lupul and Gardiner of screening Reimer.  His he nuts? Message to Wilson, they are screening Reimer because you tell them to.  You keep saying block shots.  All I ever hear you say is block shots.  I never hear you tell anyone to clear players out from in from of the goalie so he can see the shots.
