Thornton signs 700k

I know I need to stop reading them, but the sportsnet comments are overwhelmingly negative. It?s actually funny. Dubas is a complete idiot according to most of the comments.

Oh well.

Honestly, in a hard-cap league he's done well. Muzzin and Brodie added without moving a core player. His league-min/$1-million contracts are contributing. The main thing is that they're getting value for almost all of their cap dollars. You can argue the Leafs have no bad contracts, just $1-2 million and an extra year here and there. They certainly have no albatross deals.

Kind of feels like the Leafs are going for the 2012 Stanley Cup
I honestly have no idea whether you're any or several of: 1) deliberately paraphrasing Steve Simmons' tweet, 2) unintentionally paraphrasing Steve Simmons' tweet, 3) mocking the trade-bashers, or 4) agreeing with the trade-bashers.

Im very much on the Steve Simmons should be allowed to report on the team but should do it with the same amount of press access that I have train.

How anyone can complain about a 700K signing of a player of the caliber of Thornton is beyond me.  He?s not the saviour of the franchise but to think that adding another veteran voice of a player who is still quite good despite limitations in his game is just being intentionally difficult at this point.

I think another angle is that instead of the usual "The team chemistry was blown up because player X was sleeping with player Y's wife and that's why player X had to be traded", we'll get the new variation of "The team chemistry was blown up because player X was dating Joe Thornton's daughter and that is why player X had to be traded.  For his own protection".

Very classy of Spezza to contact and offer him the #19 sweater. Just as classy of Joe to decline the offer and take #97 (which he'd worn before in international completion) instead.

Noteworthy that this position was highlighted by Joe. Some years of what I would to be very frustrating goaltending in San Jose.

Not sure Dubnyk solves that goaltending issue in San Jose. Both him and Jones had horrendous numbers last season.

Joe agrees with you. Sharks probably going for a one year tank job to reload a good prospect.

With the blanks behind filled by likely Simmonds and one of Engvall, Vesey, Barabanov, Korshkov, Boyd, Anderson, or one of the other many randos we have under contract.

Mathews  - 1st overall pick 2016 Leafs
Tavares  -  1st overall pick 2009 Isles
Thornton - 1st overall pick 1997 Bruins
Spezza  -  2nd overall pick 2001 Sens

Only Kolvachuk kept this from being a clean sweep. Still I doubt any four centers on one team ever came close to this...

I mean he's benefiting from playing with Matthews and Marner, but kudos to him to be able to fit on that line at his age.  It's not a gimmie that just anyone can play there, they're tried other guys that didn't work in the past. Jumbo is truly a hall of famer.  So happy he's here and I hope we get a Cup for him this year.
