Hella confidence for a 19-year-old. The Sandman's here to play.

I know it's only preseason, but I can't understand why Sandin only played just over 10 minutes while Rielly played like 28.  Don't you want to mimic what a regular season game would be like?  Surely he's not gonna have Rielly playing that much all the time and Sandin so little?

Would love to know what Hakstol said because the trainer's sly smile and reaction were the best part of it.

Looks like: "Sandman, (something-something)."

Babs has always been good at developing/protecting/knowing when to push young players. I know he wouldn't do anything that he doesn't think is in the best interest of his development. He's in good hands.

They already know what they've got in Sandin. They're trying to evaluate Rielly to see where he fits in the team.  :P

Should we be excited?

It's pretty tough to process these graphs in isolation.  Does +22% mean that Toronto is expected to score 22% more goals than the average team?  What is Tampa's expected offense look like?

Click the link. See the charts. Laugh at Ottawa.

This is how to read the shot map chart: https://hockeyviz.com/howto/shotMap

The Threat% is a model rating the offence/defense based on what is happening in the shot map.

Basically: what is the expected chance a goal is scored from a specific location on the ice based on historical NHL shot data? Now combine that with the shotmap of where a team is shooting most often from (and allowing shots from) and tally it up.

These are projections based on thousands of simulations of the season being played out, based on the individual players' historical impacts on the game, with adjustments for stuff like back to back games, etc.

For those that don't care to look, the next best threat%s on offense are Carolina (15%), Vegas (13%), and San Jose (12%). On the back of that tremendous 22% rating, Toronto has the biggest net Threat% score at 19%.

Timashov, Marincin, and Sandin back on Team Bubble

https://twitter.com/kristen_shilton/status/1177585187976372226

It'd odd that Babcock would swap out Sandin/Marincin/Timashov for Gravel/Holl/Korshkov this late in camp but I think it's fair to say that just so the former get a little more playing time than they have so far in camp. I can't imagine this switch is what we'll see on opening night, especially since this new trio hasn't exactly been that impressive in pre-season games.

I think the bottom switch is for testing them in the different roles, as you mentioned in the GDT. How does that group (that I like) look in top of the depth chart minutes? How does this group look with more sheltering? Are there any chemistry gains to be leveraged?

Presumably this puts Tavares back in front of the net and Barrie on one of the half walls. I don't really have much of a problem with that, although it leaves the second unit a little lacking.

I didn't really watch Read much, but he could be recent depth to stash on the Marlies. Especially if the team expects to lose a guy or two to waivers soon.

Bubble players left:
Gauthier, Spezza, Agostino, Shore, Petan, Gravel, Holl, Marincin, Sandin, Timashov, Korshkov, Woll, Hutchinson, Read (PTO), Liljegren

Does Mikheyev count as bubble?

Edit: Garret Wilson, Mason Marchment, Kalle Kossila are still on the roster but they?re injured.

Any chance any of the players on waivers get picket up? Aberg? Schmaltz?

I was hoping for more from Aberg really.
