Bubble players left:
Gauthier, Spezza, Agostino, Shore, Petan, Gravel, Holl, Marincin, Sandin, Timashov, Korshkov, Woll, Hutchinson, Read (PTO), Liljegren

Does Mikheyev count as bubble?

Edit: Garret Wilson, Mason Marchment, Kalle Kossila are still on the roster but they?re injured.

Any chance any of the players on waivers get picket up? Aberg? Schmaltz?

I was hoping for more from Aberg really.
It's always a possibility but who knows. It won't really effect the Leafs. It's not like these guys made the decision hard. The next group will be more interesting.

Half those guys would be able to play for teams like Ottawa/Detroit but those teams also aren't really desperate for borderline upgrades on mediocre players.  One or two might get claimed but they really aren't organizational losses.

The rest of the bubble players are just getting another practice or two before final cuts to make a call.

Mikheyev and Hutchinson aren't bubble players at this point.

I would add in Spezzaa, Goat, Sandin and Marincin to that non bubble list. Read is an interesting player tho. I wonder if him getting a contract will be based on someone getting picked off waivers.

What is the status of Mason Marchment? I don?t see him being cut anywhere and yet he does not appear on the list of players remaining with the club either.

Here's my guess on the roster:

Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander
Kapanen - Tavares - Marner
Moore - Kerfoot - Mikheyev
Timashov - Gauthier - Spezza
Petan

Rielly - Ceci
Muzzin - Barrie
Sandin - Marincin
Gravel - Holl

Andersen, Hutchinson

I think Korshkov should make the team, but I think his waivers exemption will push him down for now.  I think Gauthier is bad, but for whatever reason they want to play this song again...ditto for Marincin.  I think both of these guys play themselves onto waivers by the November crunch.

If we picked up a maligned project on waivers or in a change of scenery trade, and developed him to the point of making a really good NHL roster in a depth role, we?d be extolling the Leafs? program.

Here we are building up Gauthier and Marincin to exactly that level (and still some room for growth). They both look better than last season.

Like I said, I've seen this movie before.

These guys have been in the Leafs' system for years now, and it seems that every year people are expecting Gauthier and Marincin to be better than what they are.

After the adrenaline of camp wears off, I'm guessing that these 2 regress back to their mean.  I feel like "new Gauthier" was already "same old Gauthier" last night.

I can't speak for Marincin but Gauthier would be far from the first guy with his frame to take fairly big leaps in his development later than most players.

You're guessing they'll regress. The leafs coaching staff are guessing they'll show progress. You guys should make a bet or something.

I said they'll regress back to their normal great AHL player selves.

They've been that for years.

Gauthier's 24 years old. I really have no issue with a penalty killing 4th liner who has consistently improved his skating. Is it elite? No. Is it even average? Probably not. Does he hurt the leafs when he's on the ice in a limited role? I personally don't think so.

We should definitely ignore where they are today vs where they were when they first joined the team where it has been a steady progression from bottom AHL/Edmonton to NHL replacement level.
