In addition, Rogers will use its digital technology to stream games on the Internet, wireless and mobile devices, and satellite radio. Rogers will operate NHL Center Ice and NHL GameCenter Live in Canada.

Many of us saw this part coming. Get ready to open your wallet folks.

So excuse me for just arriving to the party, but what does all this mean for TSN? No more NHL games ? I assume they'll still be airing international tournaments.

The reported 12 year, 5.2 billion figure means an average of 14.5 million or thereabouts per team per year. Combined with the NBC deal and each NHL team will be pulling in 21 or 22 million per year in TV money not including what they will pull down regionally.

Good on them I suppose. Although something tells me the price of Centre Ice just ticked up a bit.

To put the above number in some perspective, only 7 of the 30 teams in the league had 100 million dollars in revenue two years ago according to Forbes' most recent valuations. So getting 22 million up front is going to go a long way to fix the economic issues in places like Miami, Columbus, Phoenix et. al.

So not good news, I suppose, for hockey fans in Quebec City or Seattle. This will also probably make expansion less likely or at least way more expensive.

The agreement guarantees that there will be no further regionalization of games or local blackouts. Rogers has three exclusive windows to broadcast any game involving a Canadian team -- Wednesday nights, Saturday nights (including CBC) and Sunday nights.

I like this part a lot.

If I'm understanding this correctly, no regional broadcasts are for Wed, Sat and Sun nights only.

We wouldn't get a Sens or Jets game on a Tuesday night in the Leafs region, those would still have regional blackouts.

Yeesh, I really hope this doesn't mean that Kypreos and Doug MacLean become the national voices of hockey broadcasting in this country.

And Millard. That's really what terrifies me. Pretty much everybody Sportsnet employs on every region is awful. Except Marek, but it seems like he's barely around.

Maybe they can lure better guys away now.

I know that seems like the logical thing to do, but I wonder if they will. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to keep using their own guys/promote from within. I mean, like somebody said earlier, they've essentially created a monopoly on Canadian hockey broadcasting. What motivation is there for them to throw money at people to improve?
