Clowe wasn't great last season and has been awful this season. Unless the team can buy low on him and get him cheap, I'd pass.

That's what I was thinking. Isn't he a UFA at the end of the season anyway?

He is, and he might be worth a gamble at like $2M, but, I wouldn't go much higher than that on him right now.

I stated a few days ago that I felt the Leafs might want to consider being sellers at the deadline regardless of where they sit but if there's a deal out there for a player that can help well past this year, why not I suppose. Should the Leafs indeed decided to be buyers, routing AGAINST St. Louis right now might not be a bad idea. They're currently tied for 8th in their conference and there's a bunch of players there I'd be interested in should they decide to be sellers... Stewart is at or near the front of that list.

Today Bob MacKenzie was stating that the St Louis needs a LH dman to play with Shattenkirk and that due to St Louis players coming up for new contracts Stewart might be the guy moved.

Liles and Kulemin?

I have to think there's a deal to be made around Bozak and Liles plus 'x' going to Colorado for one their centres.

Well, there's a bit of a problem there - they can't trade O'Reilly because of the offer sheet, they almost certainly won't trade Duchene and the Leafs probably don't have all that much interest in Stastny with his contract, considering he's on pace for the equivalent of another ~55 point season.

Yeah, I'm not all that keen on paying Stastny 6.5 million to MAYBE put up PPG numbers between Kessel and Lupul in the future.  And they won't trade Duchene for pennies.

I wouldn't mind trying to reacquire Alex Steen from St. Louis.  They are a team looking for defensive help.  Move Kadri up a line and put Steen in Grabovski's role and try Grabovski on Kessel's line and see if anything clicks with Van Riemsdyk.

It's only one more season at $6.6M for Stastny though, so it might be worth the over payment. Then the team can negotiate an extension (hopefully for less.) He's good on faceoffs too, so there wouldn't be a big drop off from what Bozak brings in that department.

I like the Steen idea too, guy should never have been traded.

Some of that is that Stastny, like Grabovski, is facing the tough competition and starting less than 40% of shifts in the offensive zone.  He is getting PP time (2nd on team in PP pts), but he's also leading their forwards in SH/game.

I'd be interested in moving Bozak, Mac and some D.

Targets I'd be after are Clowe and Ribeiro (as much as I've hated him in the past he's producing). I'd also look into the availability of Bogosian though I doubt he'd be available for a price I'd be willing to pay.

I've actually been a Riberio fan since he was traded to Dallas. Thought he would have been a great fit for Kessel, but Washington beat us to the punch there. I doubt he leaves them, but who knows.

As for Clowe, where do you play him? Like I said with Perry, we're loaded on the wings. Kessel, Lupul, JVR, Kulemin, Frattin, and MacArthur all occupy the top-9 spots and none of them are getting booted to the fourth line. Mac might leave via free agency, but if he keeps up his play with Kadri I think Nonis will try hard to re-sign him. Also, Clowe's going to be on the wrong side of 30 by the time the next season starts and has already shown signs of deteriorating. Some GM is likely going to give him a big contract because of his power forward status, and I don't want to have another Armstrong situation.

Is Stastny much better than Grabovski? This is an honest question, btw.

Stastny has hit 70 points three times in his career, that's something Grabovski hasn't done and probably never will. It's been awhile since Stastny has done that, but under the right circumstances he might get back there.

That's true CTB, but right now I don't think there's much separating them.

I wanna see Grabovski on a line with Kessel and JVR/Lupul.

I ask because I wouldn't trade for Stastny if Grabovski can do the same job. If Stastny is a better option, I'd be moving Grabovski out. I think it's too much to pay for both of them.

Would anybody move Gardiner for Sam Gagner?

If he wasn't due a big raise (RFA) I'd definitely consider it. He's so talented offensively and is dynamite on the PP.

Wonder what the price for him would be?

I seem to remember a few years back many fantasy hockey publications pegging Stastny as a 90-point breakout superstar. I drafted him over Zach Parise and that's pretty much when his regression began...

We already have 3 2nd line centres.  No way I'd move Gardiner for a 4th one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but:

1) None are 23
2) None are close to a PPG average

I'd much rather have Gagner over 2 of the 3 "2nd line" centers we have (Kadri will most likely be a 1st or 2nd line pivot).

If we could move Bozak for a decent return and trade for Gagner to be the #1 until Kadri's ready I'm not sure that'd be a bad option. Gardiner is 1 year younger than Gagner.
