Would anybody move Gardiner for Sam Gagner?

If he wasn't due a big raise (RFA) I'd definitely consider it. He's so talented offensively and is dynamite on the PP.

Wonder what the price for him would be?

We already have 3 2nd line centres.  No way I'd move Gardiner for a 4th one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but:

1) None are 23
2) None are close to a PPG average

I'd much rather have Gagner over 2 of the 3 "2nd line" centers we have (Kadri will most likely be a 1st or 2nd line pivot).

If we could move Bozak for a decent return and trade for Gagner to be the #1 until Kadri's ready I'm not sure that'd be a bad option. Gardiner is 1 year younger than Gagner.

I'd like to wait more than 25 games before we declare Sam Gagner a point per game player or a top line centre. He's always been a rather streaky player.

Is Stastny much better than Grabovski? This is an honest question, btw.

Stastny has hit 70 points three times in his career, that's something Grabovski hasn't done and probably never will. It's been awhile since Stastny has done that, but under the right circumstances he might get back there.

I seem to remember a few years back many fantasy hockey publications pegging Stastny as a 90-point breakout superstar. I drafted him over Zach Parise and that's pretty much when his regression began...

Peter Stastny > J. P. Parise

You were only off by a generation.

I have been hard on Phaneuf but would love to see him as the 2nd dman on the team logging tough minutes with a top dman.

I would like to see Nonis offer Phaneuf a retirement contract of 8 years and see if he would sign somewhere around $6 MIL.  7, 7, 7, 7, 6, 6, 4, and 3.5 in the final season (2021-2022) and he would be 37 that summer of 2022.

I had circled midnight July 23, 2013 because that will be 365 days since Shea Weber signed the 14 year contract and can be traded.  Unfortunately he is signed until he is 41 which I didn't clue in on.  If Nashville is still a low income earner then the Leafs might be able to flex some financial muscle.  He could be traded to a low income team in the summer of 2022 as his next 4 years only average $1.5 MIL with a cap hit of $7.857 MIL.  The package would include Gardiner or Rielly and most likely Lupul or JVR.

Those 2 dmen would set the Leafs defense up for the next 9 years.

Oh....and Nonis can sign Perry as well.....

Cox had a blurb in the Star today saying we could still use Luongo. I had to agree (though Reimer is one of my fantasy goalies!).

He suggested:

Gardiner and Bozak

    for

Luongo and Kassian

I have to say that this is definitely something I'd be into though I'm sure the Canucks would want more. Maybe Mac as well? Maybe some picks added?

We add a good #1 goalie for the foreseeable future, and a young tough forward with skill for the loss of Gardiner. Canucks get some pieces for a playoff run and a young D-man to quarterback their PP for the future.

Interesting idea..

It looks like Anaheim is going to offer Perry 'atleast 8 years @ $8.25 per year' to keep him in Anaheim.  It has also been quoted that Anaheim will not trade Perry at the deadline, if he is signed or not, because of the season the team is having.

So  I guess that might remove him from our 'possible' wish list and move him to the 'highly unlikely' wish list.

Looking more and more that a team in the NHL is going to have to built by the draft with the odd trade and not UFAs.

I mean, i guess they can pay him and Getz that much, but they have to then pretty much be  a team at the cap to fill out a decent roster.

Angles can be deceptive, but I think a few of the tall guys in the league who's listed heights aren't inflated reveal the inaccuracy of a few of their fellow players.

As Kessel Run points out, there are also differences in the heights of various skates, so, what you see on the ice can be extremely deceptive. Without seeing the players barefoot, on a flat surface, all standing perfectly straight against a wall with a view from a direct angle . . . well, there's no real way to say for sure which measurements may or may not be accurate.

My skates are Timberlands.

If that were to happen, Ryan will, most likely be a Flyer.

Are there only two names on the radar? Perry and Luongo? Is everyone secretly hoping those two land here via trade or are there more names out there that could be a possibility. Obviously we dont know but speculation wise.

theres been talk of clowe...but ultimately with lupul coming back and gardiner eventually coming up they need to clear 2 roster spots so they will either do some trading of 2or3for1 or trade guys for picks/prospects or waive guys.

plus they are still not sure whether they will be sellers or buyers.

I personally think they will be quiet at the deadline maybe getting some low draftpicks for a few spare parts.

but we'll see

Chris Stewart has been linked to the Leafs.  Apparently the Blues like Kulemin, and they need a defenceman.

Are you trying to get a rise out of a certain TMLfans poster?  :D

That doesn't really link Stewart to the Leafs. It's two separate thoughts. One is that Stewarts name is making it's way through the rumour mill, and the other is that the Blues are interested in Kulemin. It doesn't actually put the two together. Sure, it's not a huge leap to go there, but, it's still perceiving more than is actually being presented.

Also I'm just going to throw it out there that the last time we have St. Louis a solid two-way forward with 40-50 point production it was a big mistake.  Let's not feed them more really good players in bad moves please.

C'mon, making bad trades with St. Louis keeps it both outside our division and our conference!  It's way better than making many and more bad trades with Boston. ;)

Kukla's Korner reporting a source close to the redwings saying that when Datsyuk's current deal runs out (after next season) he is going home to russia.  Do the wings throw in the towel and trade datsyuk?  If so would you trade for approx 100 games worth of datsyuk?  and what would you trade for those services?

also, great news as we won't see a good detroit in our division for at least a few years!

You're assuming they don't have a replacement on the way.

They don't have one in their system.
