Why was Carlyle fired....because he lost control of his team like Wilson did....his players stopped listening..

That pretty much happens to almost every coach at some point.  And I guess it is relevant to point out that this is a different team than the one that stopped listening in Anaheim (although even to say they stopped listening is arguable I suppose).

I can't really comment on coaching styles, but I don't see why I would want Eakins over Carlyle.  Carlyle put up great minor league coaching records, and has carried that over to the NHL.

Eakins doesn't even have 2 full seasons as head coach of the Marlies yet and is 70-67-23.  I'm not convinced on him yet, although again, I'm not one to really be able to accurately judge his coaching.

Maybe Eakins becomes an assistant?

I'd let Eakins take the Marlies to the playoffs. He's never coached a playoff game. They're a good team playing well for him. They can move him up to an assistant's role later if he and they want it.

He's got his work cut out for him.  Tampa is 4 minutes away from beating New York and pushing the Leafs down to 12th in the East.

Wonder how that big Matzo Ball is going to play out...

Maybe they'll hug it out over a trust fall.

Lupul is also playing left wing for the first time in his career. After the winger returned to health last December, Ducks coach Randy Carlyle would not play him on the left side and put him in a lesser third-line role on the right.
Carlyle said he already had Corey Perry and Teemu Selanne in the top two right wing slots but acknowledged with Lupul that "if we probably erred, we probably erred in that we didn't play him consistently enough at left wing."
"In my conversation with Randy, he said he didn't think I had the skill to play left in wing in this league being on my off side," Lupul said. "So he wasn't going to give me that opportunity here. And I'm not going to knock Corey Perry or Teemu Selanne off their right wing spot.
"So pretty much after that conversation, I realized that I probably wasn't in their plans here."
Carlyle commended Lupul for working hard to get back into action and said he's "he's probably in the best shape of his life." But he wouldn't respond to the winger's claims that he didn't get the opportunity.
"Players make comments," the coach said. "It's not up to management or coaches to throw any dirt one way or another. I'm just glad that the player is healthy and making a contribution."

Hug it out over a trust fall.

Awesome.

He'll probably get to choose a couple. I think Foligno is available. Carlyle had a long association with Dave Farrish, who coached the Leafs ECHL team for a year or so, and played for the Leafs in the late 70s after Carlyle. Farrish & Carlyle were a dman pairing for the Sudbury Wolves before turning pro - and Mike Foligno played on that team.

So are the Leafs on the hook for 2 yrs of Carlyle? Hope it pans out. I don't see much of a difference between Carlyle/Wilson- both built great records with great clubs (Ana, SJS) and moved to a subpar Leafs team.

The axe will fall on Burke if they don't make the playoffs next yr, book it.

NYR just tied it - going to OT now...

Tampa won. Leafs fall to 12th place.

Meh, I don't think it is going to change too much before the end of the season, so I'm a bit surprised he didn't do it after the season was over. We'll see what happens I guess...

He won't say "let's go" too much on the bench after a goal, the players will hear a lot more than that, for sure.

We could wake up tomorrow 25th in the league if Anaheim wins tonight... On Feb 6th before this cluster@#%$ began we were 12th.

Some decent Carlyle notes:

Timing is REALLY strange. Why not fire him after the Chicago game and give Carlyle a chance to run a practice or 2 before the next game??

Imo, Burke's worst move as GM was retaining Wilson for as long as he did. It was painfully obvious that Wilson wasn't working out. Too bad it took this long.

That's what I thought, but I suspect Burke needed to work out contract details with Carlyle and maybe the Ducks.  Also, as the G&M story says he was "pontificating" at a sports statistics conference in Boston all day today, so he was occupied.  :P
