Winnik traded to Pittsburgh

I think Sill is a keeper for the 4th line next year.  I guess we'll see if he can play centre tonight!  ::)

He reminds me of a younger Mike Brown, with maybe a bit more upside, which definitely isn't a bad thing on the 4th line.

Mike Brown was younger when he came to Toronto than Sill is now.

Went on a 47-game pointless streak to start his NHL career, 51-game goalless streak. It's nice to see him drop the gloves and all, but the guy just isn't a NHL-calibre player.

But the Leafs won't be icing an NHL caliber roster for a few years yet.

He seems almost like an ideal player to have around for a couple of years. Not much of an offensive thread, but will work hard and stick up for his teammates. If they can sign him for cheap, why not...someone's gotta play the 4th line.

As long as people realize what he is and stop using the words "keeper" and "upside" when talking about him I won't really mind if he's in the line-up next season. You could probably find somebody better to fill that same role but like you said, it won't really matter.

Guilty as charged.  The upside is I won't do it again.  :D

Well...yeah, nothing to get excited about but a better option than Orr or McLaren if the team needs toughness.

I still don't mind Troy Bodie for that role.

Troy is a winger, Sill is a centre!  Both would be perfect for the 4th line next year IMHO.

So Winnik is outscoring Franson and Santorelli combined.

Albeit by a point. And I don't have any context on how either of them are playing. But I'd have to think that Nashville isn't too pleased with what they picked up.

Apparently Franson isn't getting much PP time and is on their 3rd pairing.

If the Leafs do trade Phaneuf in the off season I wouldn't mind if they brought Franson back. They'll need someone to eat minutes. He'll be overpaid for sure but I don't think the cap will be much of a concern for them going forward.

Nashville is attempting to lower his asking price?  :o

By 'eat minutes', you mean successfully? I think we've seen enough of Franson to know his price performance will be out of whack enough to not be worth it, never mind trying to get him to play successfully against the leagues best players night in, night out.

It won't be a concern for the first few seasons, but, overpaying a guy like Franson could definitely be an issue in the later years of the type of contract he's likely to command.

So what? They're rebuilding. None of that matters. I mean I guess they can just play Polak 20-25 minutes a night.

Hard to say one way or the other. We don't know who will be on the team then, what they'll be making, or what the salary cap will be.

What kind of term do you think Franson is going to get?

I bet he gets a 5 or 6 year deal for David Clarkson type dollars.

Probably 7 years somewhere around 5-6 million. That'll probably expire before the Leafs even make the playoffs again.

So the Leafs can turn around faster then Franson then?

Hopefully, from any team other than our Leafs!
