Winnipeg Jets Thread

The Wild logo is a failed attempt to be clever, I think. I get the two-in-one thing but they swung and whiffed in my opinion... and I don't care for the colour scheme much.

The towering Winnipeg Jets forward has moved past the lingering hip pain that dogged him last season, where his production dipped to 16 goals and 41 points in 76 games with the Atlanta Thrashers.

While Antropov wasn?t using the injury as an excuse, it?s evident that having hip surgery last summer certainly hampered his play.

?It?s in the past already, so it doesn?t really matter,? Antropov said Tuesday after the new Jets jerseys were unveiled at 17 Wing Winnipeg. ?I?m looking forward to the season ? I?ve had a healthy summer and last year I was recovering from the (hip) injury. It?s going to be a great year.?

Talk shifted to Antropov?s expectations for himself.

Since much of the talk surrounding this Jets? team focused on where the goals might come from, it should be noted that Antropov had seasons of 26 and 21 goals with the Toronto Maple Leafs and just two seasons ago (when healthy) managed 24 goals and a career-best 43 assists and 67 points for the Thrashers.

That prompted the question of whether Antropov might actually hit the 30-goal plateau during the upcoming season?

?I?m not going to call the numbers, but I?ll do the best that I can. I?m looking forward to the season and we?ll go from there,? said Antropov. ?If you don?t expect anything from yourself, you shouldn?t be here.?

Much has been made about how most former Thrashers are going to need time to adjust to the scrutiny that comes with playing in a hockey-mad market, but Antropov knows first-hand what it?s like to play in a rabid Canadian city after spending the better part of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

?I?ve been in the same situation when I played for the Leafs and it?s great to be back on Canadian soil, where people know and care about hockey,? said Antropov, who spent much of the past summer training in Toronto. ?It?s great. People care and that?s the most important thing.?

Hopefully he can start the season off strong and have it carry through, he has had a healthy off-season, so he should be ready to go. With Big Buff putting on some extra weight this off-season, which will probably slow him down, the Jets may need some players to improve off their numbers from last season.

As much as it pains him, Eric Fehr will be in a sharp suit instead of a jersey on opening night as the Winnipeg Jets host the Montreal Canadiens.

Although the Winkler product continues to make progress from off-season shoulder surgery, he simply won?t be ready in time.

?I have full intentions of missing the opener,? Fehr said Tuesday after the Jets unveiled their new jerseys. ?With that in mind, I?m just trying to make sure I?m healthy and when I come back, I?m back for good.

?It?s coming along pretty well. It feels strong, but you have to be a little extra careful because it is the second surgery on that shoulder.?

Sucks that he will miss the home opener, but it is better to take your time coming back, then rushing to get back.

Nothing much wrong with this one. It is well-defined and suited to the team it represents.  (Better than the Kings logo)!

Clearly, your tastes are very different than mine. I find the
Islanders' logo to be really ugly (I don't like the colours,
the lettering, the amorphous blob that's meant to be Long
Island, etc), whereas, I find that the Kings logo is clean
and crisp.

To each their own, I guess.  :)

The very best logos belong to the original six teams, no doubt.

Truth is, I find some of today's logos/jersey to be devoid of much 'sentimentality' -- as if a computer designed it from whole.  The Wild, the Canucks, the Blue Jackets, the Hurricanes, Presators, Sharks, etc., etc.  Just my impression.

The Wild?

I actually like this logo. Given that the team name is rather ambiguous, I think it's pretty well done.

I agree.  It perfectly blended a wilderness scene with a wild cat.  For me it doesn't get much better then that.  Calgary flames logo and canucks logo were the bad unorginal ones.  They were just C's.

To me, the Wild logo looks like some kid's scrambled mad drawing.  Honestly, if I hadn't already known it represents Minnesota, I would never have guessed just what it represented.  That's how awful I think it looks.

I've heard the Wellwood deal is 1 year for $700,000

That is right, good deal for him, he used to have the potential for becoming a good top 6 player, but laziness has prevented that. I wonder if back when Quinn was coach and Welly did a sick deke and was told by Quinn to smarten up with the fancy stuff, if thats when the change happened.

he could just also not be able to pull it off at the NHL level and may be best suited for a 2 way role and PP specialist.

I'll head over to the "Burger Place" some time while I am here, I am sure I will run into Welly there as they have burgers covered in chili and fries as well, I just won't be able to get to close for a pic though, I don't want to get accidently bit.

WINNIPEG - Zach Bogosian has received a new contract in time for the start of training camp with the Winnipeg Jets.

The 21-year-old defenceman signed a US$5-million, two-year deal with the team on Wednesday.

Bogosian was a restricted free agent who waited all summer to get a new contract.

He arrived in Winnipeg earlier this week to participate in informal workouts with his teammates and told reporters he was anxious to officially join the Jets.

The difference between Atlanta and Winninpeg according to Andrew Ladd & co...

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AhAQslqzN.4rVcf5MeEHjOB7vLYF?slug=nc-cotsonika-winnipeg_embraces_nhl_jets_091611

?Everywhere you go now, people know who you are,? said Ladd, the team captain. ?It?s a big change from Atlanta, where you could go anywhere you wanted and no one had a clue who you were.?

Claude Noel...In Atlanta, there was less attention, but there was also less pressure. The Thrashers were a small deal in a big city. Well, this is Winnipeg. The Jets are a big deal in a small city. When Noel and his wife left that packed pizza place, they went somewhere Noel called ?a little bit quieter.? Still, he said: ?There?s really no places to hide.? There?s almost no place to go but down.

It?s going to be different in Canada ? in Winnipeg, certainly. What they do there is they watch games and they?re very into their hockey there, so it will be a new challenge for the players to perform in front of them. We want to just do well. We want to have growth in our team, and we want to hopefully make the playoffs. That?s really our goal.?

I'm actually very excited for Winnipeg......they have my Bryan Little and my Alex Burmistrov, and this season, even my Mark Scheifele may make the team. Gotta hope TSN/HNIC run Jets games nationally!

*bounce in anticipation*

Looks like TSN Jets is set to go, pretty stupid if you ask me that Shaw & MTS are going to charge 10$ a month for the channel, for one channel and in Manitoba it is pretty much the only way to see Jets games on TV as 60+ of them will be on this station.

Blame Bell.  Apparently at $10 a month Shaw is losing money.

There will be 28 games (I believe) that will be offered on CBC, TSN and NBC so you will still see a pretty nice lineup of games that you don't need TSN Jets for.

Yeah apparently one.

February 11th in Pittsburgh is a 2 PM start listed on the NHL Network, so, maybe it's that one? That's the only one I see that listed on anything other than TSN, CBC or RDS.

Pre-season home opener for the Winnipeg Jets...15,000 screaming fans saw the Jets' defeat the Blue Jackets 6-1....
