WJHC (World Junior Hockey Championships) 2016

2 out of 3 didn't look like they were targeting the head.  And you do know that the other player moves and moves fast right??

With IIHF rules on hitting head I wonder why players ever take the chance on trying to make the big hit?  Seems the risk factor is too large for there to be a reward.  There are already 3 ejections in 5 periods of hockey.

They could try not targeting a players head. They're lucky they're only at 3 ejections.

I disagree, this hit was very close to being a clean one.  Nylander skates with a  low head position which didn't help on that play

Nylander's head was up the entire time, the Swiss play came at him from the side and the principal point of contact was Nylander's head. That's textbook Rule 48. You can disagree about it being an illegal hit all you want but you're disagreeing with the NHL's rulebook.

I don't get this argument against illegal head shots. Nobody says this stuff about high-sticking or tripping penalties.

I'm not arguing it.  I'm suggesting players stop trying for the big hit as the risk of hitting head is high and penalty is harsh.  Remember it doesn't have to be primary point of contact in international hockey, hit the head at all and it's a penalty.

Wow DeBrincat gets 5 and a game for spearing Konecny. Probably wouldn't have even been penalized for that in the NHL.

Yeah I mean I can understand it being interpreted as a spear I guess but it was really more of a slash to me.  Konecky seemed to really oversell it.

Barzal was awful in the 1st period.  Marner wasn't great either.

Didn't Barzal just score?

In the second yes.  He was really good in the 2nd.  Not so much in the first.

Can't wait for Matthews to get drafted by the Leafs only to suffer a career-ending concussion playing volleyball 4 days after.
