WJHC (World Junior Hockey Championships) 2016

http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/wjc/2015/12/24/10631846/2016-world-junior-championship-preview-five-leafs-finland-sweden-canada

These are the three teams to watch for me (CAN, SWE, FIN) due to the Leaf prospect presence, and in the case of Sweden and Finland, a chance to see potential Leaf picks at the 2016 Draft in action: Alex Nylander, Jesse Puljujarvi, Patrik Laine.

I have some serious doubts that this team is capable of repeating. The defence doesn't look as sound. The goaltending looks good though. Fingers crossed. I'd bet on the Americans this year.

The Americans have definitely pegged as favourites, what with their dynamic offense (as demonstrated in their pre-tourney games).

Canada is no slouch offensively neither, but the Canadians are going to need, yes, better defence, and, better discipline -- staying out of the penalty box or else find themselves seriously shortchanged (in that pre-tourney game against Sweden was a case in point).

It's too bad that Canada's first game is against the US tomorrow.  A win would boost the player's confidence and a loss...

GO CANADA GO!!!

So, the good news: Nylander and Timashov have both scored a goal in the 1st period of the SWE-SUI game.

The bad news: Nylander left the game in the middle of the period after taking a blindside hit to the head. He apparently looked pretty woozy afterward  :'(

He looked dazed getting up and was woozy at the bench.  He walked back to the room ok.  No question it was a concussion.

No point but Timashov sets up the screen on Sweden's 5th goal of the game. Now up 5-1 on the Swiss, looks like they want to make them pay.

This is going to get ugly.  Sweden looks like they want this to turn into a 20 goal game.

That should have been 5 and a game. It's pretty clear what the Swiss are doing here, and the refs can't just let them get away with it.

And the Swedes score again.

The ref was staring at it too.  Blind incompetent moron.

With IIHF rules on hitting head I wonder why players ever take the chance on trying to make the big hit?  Seems the risk factor is too large for there to be a reward.  There are already 3 ejections in 5 periods of hockey.

They could try not targeting a players head. They're lucky they're only at 3 ejections.
