He certainly had a much better 3rd period.

Not sure what was going through Hickett's head when he deflected a puck in the air right in front of his own goal.  I'm still not seeing what Team Canada sees out of Crouse either.

It looked to me that Canada outchanced the U.S. pretty substantially. I don't think scoring will be this team's problem.

They're outchancing the US certainly didn't make the most of whatever chances or opportunities they had.  While the US seemed more strategic (getting more from the point), the Canadians scrambled around too much getting fancy, waiting for that perfect spot, etc.

That 5 minute US major penalty was Canada's chance to shine and they showed very little for it.  Perhaps that summed up the game for the Canadians.  They just couldn't quite grasp it while the Americans held that extra bit of an edge (including some luck).

Yeah, he's dangerous out there. Composed.

Marner wasn't too bad.  I'd say Strome had the better game.

Strome has good anticipation but the one time when he should have absolutely passed the puck was on that 2-on-1.  This summed up what Canada had been doing the whole game.  Strome previously scoring on that shot should have been done more by not just the top line but by the other lines as well.

Otherwise, the top line was actually very good today.

Other scores & results:

Finland routs Belarus 6-0 on Jesse Puljujarvi's three point game.

Sweden drubs Switzerland 8-3 but not before losing some players to questionable hits.  Already without their top two defencemen due to injuries, the Swedes lost the services of top forward William Nylander and second in-line Kempe after some questionable hitting on the part of the Swiss.

Nylander left the game appearing concussed after being sent flying from what was essentially a hard open-ice hit that seemed to have targeted Nylander's head.

Team Switzerland denied going after Sweden's players:
We wanted to play physical," said Swiss captain Timo Meier. "Obviously, you know, we didn?t want to injure any players. We wanted to play hockey, we wanted to win that game. Obviously those two hits that happened weren?t on purpose."

Sweden's Dmytro Timashov with two goals differed:
"I think they know that he?s one of the best players in the tournament, maybe the best one," said Timashov. "I think they knew what they did. I don?t know. I hope he gets back."

Chris Egil (player who hit Nylander) was suspended 3 games by the IIHF for a checking to the head violation.

Good in the sense that he can't hit one of the Canadians then.

Perlini looked good on the line.  Quenville didn't fit to me.

Those Danes hand it to the Swiss again,, defeating them 2-1:

Sweden with a big win over the US. 1-0 shutout victory for their goalie Linus Soderstrom, who made 46 saves in the win. That should quiet their goaltending doubters.

Anyway, the US kinda bungled things late in the game. Seems like Wilson wasn't pulling their goalie with a minute and a half or so left, so the goalie just went for it anyway. As he hit the blueline the puck started to go back to the Americans zone and so the goalie turned back, but the 6th skater had already jumped onto the ice so they got dinged with a penalty. Then Matthew Tkachuk had a pretty dumb penalty high-sticking/crosschecking a Swedish defencemen in the face to put them down 2 men. That obviously did it for them.

This is a game that could set very bad habits for the next game.  Marner has done some ridiculous moves with the puck.

1-1 after 20 minutes

At times he looks downright magical. It's just a shame his passes aren't converting.
