Oilers get a late tying goal waved off.  Fans go crazy.  Oilers come back and Yakupov ties game with 4.7 seconds left.  Does an awesome Fleury-like celebration.

So the Yakupov celebration last night... Good or bad? I'm leaning towards good. After all, I want to be entertained and well, it was that.

Yup, a goal with 4.0 seconds to go to tie the game?  I can forgive him for going a tad overboard. :P

It was ok.  Would probably bother me if it were against the Leafs though.

I liked it, didn't seem like he was hotdoggin, seemed like a real moment of joy.

I was a little surprised by the quotes coming from the Oilers lockeroom, I believe Stoll commented on the fact that his teammates did not enjoy the celebration.

Pavel Kubina's agent told CTK that they are currently considering 3 offers from the NHL and will know more in a few days.

I had no problem with the celebration. As someone said, it seemed like he was sincerely excited - he wasn't explicitly showing up the other team. And from his corner of the world, it reminded me a little of a soccer celebration (not that I want our game to be like soccer but it may have influenced his natural reaction).

Simon Gagne had a tumour the size of a tennis ball removed from his neck during the summer. He is now healthy and headache free. #nhl

As a general rule, I think goal celebrations should be team oriented rather than skating off on your own.

But a 19 year old scoring such a huge goal a few games into his career?  He could have grabbed a mic and screamed his own name, and I'd be okay with it.

I think his celebration was pretty silly. If I were a veteran on a team where a young player did something like that, I'd probably tell him that he looks foolish making a spectacle of himself like that, and that not everyone appreciates that level of enthusiasm.

That said, if you're not concerned with how fans, players, teammates, or the media perceive you, then slide away. It ain't bragging if you can do it.

Yes, as we've learned from commentary on Russian players, it is too much enthusiasm from them that leads to criticism.

I think I can understand Yakupov's celebratory spectacle given that it was his first overtime NHL goal, that gave his team it's first victory of the season, plus it came against the defending Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings.

Maybe he overdid it but perhaps his accomplishments justified his enthusiasm.  If it hadn't been overtime, I doubt he would have had so much reason to celebrate.

I don't think it was overtime, he tied it with four seconds left.

My mistake.  Sam Gagner scored the OT winner.

Still, haven't seen a  celebration quite like that in a long while!

That's because usually, players in the NHL have scored a goal before.

It was super offensive.

He should have had more respect for his opposition.  You know.  Slash them.  Hit them from behind.  Take a long run and hit them in the head to cause a concussion.  Jump a guy from behind to start a fight.

You know, all the classy things that hockey players do.  None of that disrespectful celebration after scoring a goal garbage.  That's just awful.
