2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

If D'Arnaud is in the mix I have to assume that it's more complicated than just Dickey, in which case I think you have to hold off judgment until you see the bulk of it. If, say, Ike Davis could be thrown into the mix...

Imagine if Lind and Ike Davis could part of the package!

I mean, I think Davis fills a more immediate need but sure. Point being just that I have to assume that AA wouldn't trade D'Arnaud unless he was getting back something that made good long and short term sense.

Davis is a fit for a current need, though, I'm not all that impressed by his numbers so far - especially his OBP. He definitely needs to learn some discipline at the plate.

I'd be quite happy if the Jays could land Zack Wheeler as part of the package, but, that's probably asking for too much.

He's got good BB numbers so I don't think it's a discipline issue, he just needs to hit .260-.270 for his OBP to be a plus.

It's more about cutting down his K rate a little bit. I mean, sure, he's no Adam Dunn up there, but, at the same time, he's also no Adam Dunn up there.

Either way, the point is that I can't imagine D'Arnaud being part of a deal that didn't include something else coming back with Dickey and something that had some legitimate value so I wouldn't get too worked up over those rumblings.

Ugh. Regardless of the return, I really don't like the idea of dealing D'Arnaud. I don't think JPA's the long-term solution at catcher and D'Arnaud's got a ton of talent.

#mets, #jays still working to finalize. Jays willing to include d'arnaud, but said to want prospect back with dickey

This is where I am on it as well.  I don't want to give up D'Arnaud, but it depends on the return.

Agreed. As Nik said, this deal needs to make short term and long term sense - straight up, it doesn't make sense to me at all. If Dickey were 28 instead of 38....

The longer this plays out, the more I get the feeling this deal is going to fall apart. The Jays won't trade D'Arnaud for just Dickey, not for just one season of Dickey. The rumour is they haven't even approached him about signing an extension yet (whether they have been given permission is unclear), so, there's clearly still a significant amount of ground to cover here.

Although, in fairness, those rules get tossed out a bit with a knuckleballer. Phil Niekro won 130 games after he turned 38.

A traditional knuckleballer, sure, but Dickey doesn't really throw a floater. He has a much heavier knuckler than guys like Niekro and Wakefield. It gives him a little more control, but it's also means more strain on his arm/shoulder.

But I can't imagine it puts that much more strain on his arm. He could very legitimately have another 8-10 years in him.

Source: Mets-Jays inching toward finish line. At least some players' medicals have been reviewed and OK'd. At this point, it's imminent.

NYPost_Mets: As of this morning, the Dickey trade was going to include 7 players. Four coming to the Mets and three going to Jays.

NYPost_Mets: Hearing the Jays want a catcher back. Could be Thole.

NYPost_Mets: If Thole goes, Mets could bring back a second catcher in the deal, I'm told. Probably John Buck.

NYPost_Mets: Mets are also almost certain to get a pitcher back.

NYPost_Mets: Noah Syndergaard, who pitched at Single-A last year, is the pitcher the Mets have discussed getting back from Jays.

NYPost_Mets: So to recap, Dickey, Thole and another player to Jays for d'Arnaud, Buck, Syndergaard and another player was on table this morning.

NYPost_Mets: should have said "possibly" Thole in that previous Tweet.

I'm liking this deal less and less the more information that comes about about it.

I don't like the addition of Syndergaard, if true, but other than that if you think about it the Jays flipped Halladay for Dickey, Gose and Drabek. That's not too bad.
