2018-2019 Toronto Marlies Thread: Hail to the Champions...and Onwards!

https://twitter.com/TorontoMarlies/status/1076547533873176576

Trevor Moore now tied for 2nd in goals in the AHL. It's a shame that we don't have any room for a left handed winger anywhere on the roster right now.

No away game for the Leafs until the 28th (Columbus); even with the call up, I can?t see Babcock putting any Marlies on the ice unless more injuries hit. Moore will make the team next season.

Maybe this season around trade deadline????

Depends if we make a roster trade adding to our backend.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe with these injuries and the players that take their spots, some guys at become tradeable... Brown. Hyman.. Who knows?

So you're saying it could be a blessing in disguise? I'm liking the thought process

I think it could be. It may also make that lightbulb go off in Babs' head that the Johnsson kid or whoever is actually a better fit for with the JT/Matthews line then Hyman.

WJC + Moore's call up + illness/injuries/suspension is making Marlies lineup building a fun exercise. That's Jordan Subban suiting up as a RW.

Not sure why Dicky Clune is not a go.

Went to the game this past Sunday and the guy who stood out for me was Subban. The kid can fly. Don't know what his future with the team is but I liked his game.

Just send Holl back to the Marlies. Babs obviously doesn't intend to ever play him, and there's pretty much zero chance he gets claimed on waivers on the way down.

Sandin's status is up in the air as well as he can return to the Marlies, or Rogle, or the Soo. The 4-6 wk elbow sprain doesn't really help that decision along.

I know these (in general) are just iso clips, but Michael Carcone has been more than an afterthought trade piece (Leivo deal).

Yeah the guys on the Leafs on Deck podcast have been talking him up lately.

If there was zero percent he'd be down already and the Leafs would be saving cap money.

?I don?t want to be rude,? Carcone prefaced. ?But there?s a lot more top-end prospects in Toronto.?

[...]

?I feel like he?s still in that adjustment period,? Keefe said. ?It?s going to take him some time. [...] I  think there?s more to his game offensively that can be developed,? Keefe said.. ?In particular with how he can convert offensive situations into play driving situations. Mainly just, holding on to the puck [and] possessing the puck.?

It's a good situation they have on the Marlies.  With a lot of top-end prospects as Carcone puts it, there is always internal competition on the team to be THE GUY performing.  Being able to run 4 lines where guys are always trying to be better than the next guy is good for overall development of the prospects.  Once Hutch gets down there to solidify the goaltending I think the Marlies will have a good stretch run going into the playoffs.

Clune is an overager for the AHL.

from AHL FAQ
In the AHL, player development is a top priority. The American Hockey League and the
Professional Hockey Players? Association have the following development rule in place:

Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a game, at
least 13 must be qualified as ?development players.? Of those 13, 12 must have played in
260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL and European elite leagues), and
one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for
development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season.
