2018-2019 Toronto Marlies Thread: Hail to the Champions...and Onwards!

Just watched the interview with Keefe after the 1-0 OT win.  Raved about Rosen said he was "playing at a different level", don't get me wrong but if Jake is going to walk for nothing better to get our first round pick and good prospect back.  Rosen can do an adequate job, perhaps better Defensively than Jake.

Keefe also praised Borgman, saying he has really improved since coming back from his injury.  Mason Marchment out 2-3 months with broken Collarbone.  :'(

Rosen stood out last night, I was watching him on every shift cause I know he's most likely on the Leafs next season. He's poised and always makes the right play. He's the definition of an over-ripe AHL player that should already be playing in the NHL

Hey Zee, forgot you were at the game, good report from you as well. I seem to remember when these guys came over that Rosen was the favoured prospect but Borgman took the wheel.  I hope both of them can eventually play for us.

Borgman wasn't impressive. Not sure what's up with him, I mean he was fine but didn't really stand out with creating anything.

Was disappointing that both Liljegren and Sandin are still out, was hoping to see them play.

Engvall, Bracco and Moore were noticeable as forwards. Mueller had a few good looks too.

Borgman injured again, not sure he will connect in T.O. I can see him moving on as part of a package (even though I like him, good hitter)

However Rosen had 3 assists yesterday and leads the AHL in Defensive scoring..I am sounding like a broken record here but I don't see him being any worse than Bad Jake TM and we are going to lose Jake for nothing just like JVR and Bozi.

Lillypad and Sandin played together and looked very impressive. Especially Lillypad has really picked it up.  Sandin looks like he will stay in the AHL next season, perhaps Lilypad  makes the move up in place of Hainsey or Zaitsev if we can move him.

Engvall now moved to Centre and is looking very good there, perhaps we have a future solution for 4th line C.  Guy can skate and shoot, picked up game winner in first game with a laser and two assists yesterday.

Seems like decent D pipeline the Leafs have laid. Good on the Shannaplan. I don't think the team takes a step backward with the loss of Gardiner.

What remains to be seen is if we make Jake our rental or not. If not hopefully we can glean something that at least we can live with.

The only way I see Jake going is if it involves a D man coming back. Doesn't mean he has to get traded directly as the assets in return for Jake can be turned into that D man. We may be shocked at what Dubas does by Monday. Maybe he goes off the board and trades a roster player we haven't discussed.

As long as it is Marleau or Zaitzev or both
While Zaitsev has looked better of late, Marleau just doesn't fit on the Matthews line. He looks lost out there and is doing nothing offensively.

Goaltender Michael Hutchinson?s numbers (and one of the reasons behind the Marlies sound netminding: 7-2-1 w/l record, .896 SV%, 2.95 GAA.

The other is Kaskisuo (improved since having the veteran Hutchinson on board) - - 5-2-1 w/l record, .897 SV%.

GO MARLIES!

Engvall seeming to catch fire in new Centre role, Keefe's comments:

On Pierre Engvall on developing in his new role as centre:
I think in all areas as a centre, he?s really come to life. He was outstanding today. He really drove the game any time he was out there. One of the biggest concerns coming into this week with him as centre had been faceoffs but he?s worked at it, he?s getting stronger and stronger and I thought we had some good matchups for him in this game for faceoffs and it helped. He started with the puck and his line didn?t give it back too much.

My big question is about Korshkov who is 22, 6'4".  He was our 2nd round draft pick, why isn't he over here, playing big minutes on the Marlies and seeing what we really have. Wouldn't it be better to have him under our development team with Coach Keefe?  And why not R?s?nen as well, better to have him in our system, especially when Rosen and perhaps one of the other graduates with the losses of Hainsey and Gardiner.

Our even Lindgren who recently is starting to look like a legitimate prospect?  I think leaving some of these guys in Europe/Russia is a mistake, obviously the Leaf organization is top notch from the big team to the Growlers. Let's get these guys into our N.A system and develop them.

Also Kara seems to have some upside but is under contract till 20/21.  Just wondering why we don't have the ones with upside over there,  over here?

Korshkov chose to sign a KHL deal. He's on the final year and in the midst of a playoff run (that is probably over in the next couple of days).

The Marlies have no cap or roster constraints, but there are still only so many players per game, and only so many games to play, and only so many roles to divvy out. It's okay if some of them think they have a better shot developing against professionals closer to home during the regular season. They don't actually get to play for the Marlies unless we ELC them, and those are not being handed out so readily these days. We'll get a better look at a handful when their seasons/playoffs are over, especially if they are an upgrade over certain Marlies/Growlers.

So there is a chance that Korshkov and Lindgren have a chance to join the Marlies if they crash out of the playoffs across the pond.

Yep. Lindgren came over last year but couldn't land much ice time so he went home early to train.

I'm pretty sure Korshkov is coming over for next season if not the playoffs this season.

From what I have been reading about Lindgren, sounds like he has seen some real improvement lately, playing 20 minutes a game etc.

It'll be good to confirm that Korshkov is actually a real person after nobody knew who he was when Hunter drafted him off the board 3 years ago.
