The Blue Jays (48-56) visit Oakland Coliseum for a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics (61-46).

The Athletics are third in the A.L. West, 6GBL Houston Astros and 2 GB for the second WC spot.

The Blue Jays come off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox.  In the process though, the Jays lost Lourdes Gurriel Jr., with what appears to be a knee injury.  Gurriel set a MLB rookie record for his consecutive hitting streak.  He was doing so well until that injury.  (sigh)
On the bright side, sidelined starter Marco Estrada will return to pitch tonight.

LET'S GO BLUE JAYS!

Crappy loss.

The Jays' bats went cold and starter Marco Estrada, back from the DL, was erratic at best in allowing four runs in four innings of play.  Not that the bullpen was any better against the swingin' A's, as Oakland pummelled the Jays on the scoreboard 10-1.

Not a bad return for Osuna given the difficult situation with his assault.  I was expecting less of a return unless they held on to him for the rest of the season so I can?t complain.  If they can get their sports psychologist to do their job we might have a solid closer to replace him on top of a couple of decent pitching prospects.

The Astros actually have a "zero tolerance policy".  One wonders why they traded foe Osuna in the first place.  This is their response on the above-mentioned:

"We don?t condone or support this sort of behavior from our players,? Luhnow said. ?Having said that, Roberto did this as he was a member of another team and he has been appropriately punished and paid the penalty for the situation by Major League Baseball and complying with their policies and he has taken subsequent steps with trying to seek help and improve his outlook and his life. Quite frankly, I believe that you can have a zero-tolerance policy and also have an opportunity to give people second chances when they have made mistakes in the past in other organizations. That?s kind of how we put those two things together.?

First Gaviglio, then Stroman.  Looks like  the Blue Jay starters are trying their best to be at their worst.

Gaviglio was tagged for five runs in yesterday's 6-2 Oakland romp.

Today, Marcus Stroman got socked for seven, (yes), seven runs in an 8-3 Oakland laugher.

Well, the month of August has arrived and there may just be more trading around the corner coming.
(Non-waiver trade deadline expired July 31).

The Jays could still let Estrada & Garcia pass through waivers before trade considerations.

The Toronro Blue Jays (48-59) visit Safeco Field for a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners (63-45).

The Mariners are second in the A.L. West division,  5 GBL Houston Astros, and occupy the second WC spot (tied with the Oakland Athletics).

The Blue Jays are coming off being swept three-straight by the Athletics.  The Jays certainly have seen better days but this series encapsulated evrrything that is wrong with this team, from the pitching on down to the defence.

The A's just kept on coming and the scores pretty well reflected the Jays shoddy play.

Forget about the A's.  It's the Mariners here now.  New series to take on.

LET'S GO BLUE JAYS!

A couple of home runs were keys in the Jays 7-3 triumph over the Mariners last night.
Kendrys Morales' two-run shot vaulted the Jays ahead in the seventh inning by one (4-3) at that point, until the ninth inning when Toronto scored three (which includwd a two-run homer by Diaz) and sealed the win.

It was also a victory of sorts for reliever Mike Hauschild, who took over from starter du jour Tyler Clippard (who's actually a closer) and thus recorded his first-ever MLB win.

Hauschild was signed by the Jays after being released by the Astros, and this was his first MLB assignment since 2017.  He pitched six innings in allowing zero runs and struck out five.

The Blue Jays failed to sweep the Mariners this afternoon in a 6-3.  However, the Jays took three out of four in this series against Seattle.

Jays starter Sam Gaviglio was tagged with several runs as the Mariners turned on the firepower.  The game was tied 3-3 at one point before the Mariners rallied ahead, after the Jays Aledmys Diaz had tied it up in the seventh inning.
Diaz had a 3 RBI game which included a home run.

The Boston Red Sox (79-34) come to town to face the Toronto Blue Jays (51-60) in a three-game series here at the Rogers Centre.

The red-hot Red Sox, first in the A.L. East division, are 9.0 games up on the second place NYYankees.

The Blue Jays are coming off of having won three out of four over the Seattle Marinnes in their most recent road series.
The Jays haven't had much luck against the Red Sox this year, not that they've had much luck in their season either, but Boston continues to be a thorn in the Jays side.

Former Blue Jay Steve Pierce,  previously traded to the Red Sox for prospect Santiago Espinal, will make his first appearance against his former team.

Anyways, as usual...

LET'S GO BLUE JAYS!

Hip, hip, boo-ray!

Yep, far from celebrating a potential victory, the Blue Jays hopes were dashed the minute starter Marcus Stroman didn't return in the eighth inning.

Stroman, who had pitched brilliantly up until then -- seven innings, one run and striking out four -- the Stro Show was back -- ended up being sidelined by a blistered finger.
In came Ryan Tepera in relief, and down went the lead and the Jays on the night.

Sure the Blue Jays kept trying to come back and did on Justin Smoak's solo home run in the bottom of the ninth that tied the game at 5-5.  But then, with Ken Giles on the mound making his debut before the announced crowd of 31,000+ fans at the Rogers Centre, Giles probably wished he had been elsewhere but on that mound this night.

With Giles in, the Red Sox pounded out five runs, taking a 10-5 lead in the 10th inning.
The Jays Kevin Pillar smacked a two-run homer to close the gap but nothing much more happened thereafter.

The Blue Jays avoided a Boston sweep by winning last night 8-5.  Not all of the Jays offence was powered by homers, save for Hernandez's solo  and Grichuk's pivotal two-run shot in the third inning that gave the Jays the lead at thst point.

Jays starter Ryan Borucki, well he certainly didn't make it look easy but got the win regardless, having been tagged with the four runs in five innings.
The Jays relievers did a fine job of maintaining a level of consistency (Garcia, Clippard, Tepera,  and Giles).

The Tampa Bay Rays (58-57) visit the Rogers Centre for a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays (53-62).

While both the Rays and the Jays find themselves hopelessly out of the plsyoff race, they can take solace in the fact that their farm teams were ranked second and third best in MLB rankings ss conducted by Baseball America.

That said, the Rays are one win over the .500 mark, while the  Jays won their last game in their most recent three-game set versus the Rwd Sox, thus avoiding a Boston sweep.
