2019-2020 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

With that said he really didn't do anything in the 3 games (and limited ice-time) to impress me. He was supposed to be a guy who could throw his body around and I never really saw that.

I mean, he seemed like a perfectly adequate 4th line winger, which isn't saying much.

Maybe. But in that case it's weird that they would call him up and play him ahead of a number of other deserving Marlies.

I can't really think of any other Marlie to be a 4th line extra that they haven't already tried.

He was just coming off an injury before the call up. I don't think he had the footspeed (or confidence) to play that game this time.

That's what I say too.  In any case, he didn't make any impression whatsoever IMO.

By all accounts he had a shot at making the big club coming into training camp. He got hurt, had shoulder surgery and basically just came back. I think that's why they gave him a few games. As for making an impression. How did Willy do when he came back after missing a few months and not coming off surgery. Marchment may get another chance down the road. As for a deserving player, look no further then Bracco.

Can't wait if Marchment is as good as Willy!

Haha. Good one.

Matthews went such an oddly long time without a hat trick, but I say he gets another within the week.  Life is just like that sometimes.

Hope he stays hot.  Leafs could use the goals with the way they've been giving them up lately.

Gotta think some of that had to do with how Babcock allocated time by game phase. Chances are, if Matthews has scored two already, the opponent's defense was giving us a good number of openings, and thus the Leafs would not be chasing. The Hymans and Browns and Kadris and Komarovs tended to cap off those games.

I mean Keefe would scale back the minutes of the big guys and roll 4 lines when the Leafs have a big lead too, but Babcock would have never had Matthews out there with the net empty.

That's interesting. I wonder if Dermott gets shopped if they think something is close there.

Have to be careful with that.  Dermott just turned 23, you have to figure him and Sandin are long term options on the left side going forward.  Muzzin I really like, but he's 31 next month, if he agrees to a 4-5 year deal I guess it's alright.

I wouldn't want to trade Dermott just so we can have only 3 lefties... but if Dermott is what it costs to get a right handed Dermott...

At this point, Dermott is in line to become our defense corps version of Connor Brown.

I think Dermott moves to the right side when all are healthy. Who knows what's going to happen though and what Dubas' plan is. I don't think many of us saw the Kerfoot-Barrie/Kadri trade coming so as usual, we'll see.

Dermott and Kapanen for Savard (50% retained) and Anderson from Columbus. Bracco to New York for Georgiev. See you on the parade route.
