They better get these contracts for Kappy and Johnson signed before rfa offer sheets come their way.
I know its a dick move, but If I'm a rival GM and want to put some additional cap pressure on Toronto, I would be offering Kapanen like 4 yrs at 4 to 4.2 million.  Losing a 2nd round pick to gain a 22 year old with breakaway speed coming off a 20 goal season would seem like a no brainer to a team with cap space....leafs would have to match and would end up spending another 1 million or so per year more then they were planning.
The deals are apparently at the finish line and the RFA market doesn't open until Wednesday.

Let's hope that means the ink is drying  :)

It's not a dick move if they're legitimately trying to sign him.

I suppose everyone is aware that the Leafs have some contract bonus money to pay out on July 1st. But I was really stunned to see how much the total is. These are the bonus checks the Leafs need to write on Monday:

Matthews - 15,200,00
Tavares - 14,990,000
Nylander - 8,300,000
Zaitsev - 3,000,000
Andersen - 3,000,000
Kadri - 2,000,000
Brown - 500,000
Sparks - 40,000

This is a bit over 47 million and you still have to add Marner. Call it 56 million US or 74 million Canadian.

Wow!

Thanks, I knew MLSE had money but wow.  That's only Leafs too, I imagine Raptors have similar situation (excuse my ignorance don't know about basketball and bonus money).  The company is super loaded if they can afford this without worry.

Admittedly I don't know much about these things but I don't think paying this money in bonuses actually would cost a company like MLSE much vs. just paying it in salary.

Worst case for MLSE is they borrow the money and it costs them in interest fees. But of course, they'd have the cash on hand to not require borrowing.

Yeah. They might lose out on some interest growth, but, in terms of their balance sheet, what they'll lose out in is basically a rounding error.

They put Mitch's name last. No respect.

I'm going to interpret that to mean Nic Baptiste, Gabriel Gagne, Jordan Subban, and Eamon McAdam were not given QOs.

Which only means they don't have to give them a raise.
And yeah, alphabetical order has no place here lol.

For a companies like Rogers/Bell, I'm sure those signing bonuses are being amortized over the length of the contract.

I sincerely hope the Leafs employ a financial planner that is able to present the time value of money to show just how much of a benefit it is to get your $ asap.

And they still (potentially) have to add in Marner's signing bonus.

Pavelski is apparently not likely to re-sign in SJ. Would love to have him on the Leafs, but there's no way the Leafs can, and possibly should, pay for him.

Nylander deserving any kind of bonus is laughable. I realize it's contractual and only in the real world do you get a bonus at your job as merit based.  I hope this is prorated at least for the months he did not report.
