I sure hope not, because Brodie and an aging Simmonds is nice, but it doesn't exactly move the needle tremendously. The team is still soft as butter.

Doesn't preclude trades. The top 6 is what it is at this point - just get Matthews to throw his body around a bit more and have Marner put on some more muscle in the offseason and that's pretty well sorted. I think maybe there's a way to replace Kerfoot at 3C with someone more defensive oriented for cheaper, but I don't think they need much more, nor can we reasonably expect much more than that imo.

I think he has all kinds of plans and scenarios. I wouldn't be surprised if they get Weegar or someone similar. We shall see.CarltonTheBear said:Deebo said:https://twitter.com/markhmasters/status/1314731443369771013
Sounds like they might still be in on Weegar? They could pick him up and then flip Holl out. Although that extra $1mil (assuming Weegar signs for $3mil) would mean we're down to just a 20 man roster. Unless they trade Kerfoot (in addition to Johnsson) and replace him with a $2mil-ish centre.

Is Joe a 3C? He's 41...Frycer14 said:Guilt Trip said:I think he has all kinds of plans and scenarios. I wouldn't be surprised if they get Weegar or someone similar. We shall see.CarltonTheBear said:Deebo said:https://twitter.com/markhmasters/status/1314731443369771013

Kerfoot and Johnsson out, and Weegar and Thornton in would work.
What is your comfort level with going into the season with the group of defensemen you have now? Do you foresee one of your current players playing on his offside to start?
Dubas: At this time, we certainly would project to see Travis Dermott playing on his off-side. He has done that going back to Erie. He has done it with the Marlies and with the Maple Leafs. He seems to be very comfortable there. We would like to see him grow there and continue to challenge up the depth chart with the intention being that, four years from now, after TJ?s deal has come and gone successfully, Travis has ascended up our depth chart that way and those are the types of minutes that he is playing well.
I would envision Travis playing over there. We know Martin Marincin can play over there as well. We've got Timothy Liljegren, of course, who played up for us and is a young player that we think has a great future with us. We have options there as it pertains to our defense in general. If we could add somebody that maybe possesses a little bit more power and presence on the backend here in the coming days, we would still like to try to do that, but we will see how that goes.
Word is they can get him for cheaper then that. Who knows? He would def finish off the D though.Deebo said:Weegar seems like he would really solidify the top 4, and at the rumoured 3M it would be locked in at under 20M for 2 more seasons, then it would go up 3-4M for Rielly's extension.
Rielly-Weegar
Muzzin-Brodie
Tampa had to give up 1st rounders to get Goodrow and Coleman, which raised eyebrows but it made a significant impact on thier team.
If that was the cost for Weegar I think management would have to consider it. To have a cost controlled top 4 like that would be massive.
Contingent on a 4ish year deal at ~3M AAV, am I crazy to say I'd be willing to move the 2021 1st for him, if that's what it took?
He's only 26.
A pick can be replenished by moving Johnsson, maybe not a first though.

No way they bring back Hutch. Don't see him wanting to come back either lol. They'll need a guy for the Marlies unles they plan on running the kids. Don't see them doing that though.CarltonTheBear said:A somewhat minor signing that I'd expect the Leafs to make soon is to bring in a 3rd goaltender. I noticed a few viable candidates for that like Anton Forsberg and Keith Kinkaid have already signed with other teams. Guys like Louis Domingue or Scott Wedgewood are a couple names that pop out as goalies with NHL experience that are looking to slot in as a 3G guy. Or maybe they even bring back Michael Hutchinson for that role.
