2020-2021 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

The fixture dates have been announce but no face off times? Wondering if they?re going to stagger games for as much tv coverage as possible as they did during the restart?

Hopefully a few ~3pm ET Leafs face offs to make UK/Ireland viewing much easier

I guess 8 of the 13 games being "late" here isn't that bad of a distribution. Was hoping they'd at least start some of those at 6 or 6:30pm... but I guess years of us screwing over Canucks fans with their start times has caught up.

Those 3 in a rows are going to be great when you meet a team that is in a slump and you're on a hot streak. Not so much when it's the other way around.

It's going to be fun when teams lay the inevitable 5-10 duds on the season and then have to play the same team they beat up on the next night.  Payback games are going to be fun.

I know it's trickier to do when you're playing a full set of teams as opposed to just 6 other ones but I hope it results in enough great stretches of games and stories that it inspires the league to try and do a more baseball-like schedule (i.e. the Toews schedule) when things get back to normal.

For those, who like me cannot do a variety of mental math at once, here it is in Eastern.

One measley 4pm ET game. Might go to bed early and get up for the last two periods of the 10pm ET games though, that could work.

There was a comment in the training camp thread about who draws the most penalties for the Leafs. I looked into that a tiny bit and found something pretty surprising: Rielly didn't draw a single penalty at 5-on-5 last season. Defencemen generally aren't the league leaders in that category but still zero in almost 900 minutes seemed pretty extreme to me. He was averaging 7 penalties drawn a season in his career prior to this past season.

Then I looked league-wide and found that there were actually a number of defencemen in that same boat. Fowler, Schmidt, Maatta, J. Johnson, and Faulk all played over 1,000 5-on-5 minutes and weren't credited for a single penalty drawn. Letang, E. Johnson, Jokiharju, Keith, Leddy, Hamonic, Zaitsev, Boychuk, and Larsson were all close to 1,000 or more minutes and had just 1.

Marner, who put up a pro-rated 90+ pt season during a shortened season marred with injury and drama, returning to form stronger and better, would be devastating to the playoff hopes of the rest of the Scotia North Division. Would it be crazy to expect an 80 pt season from him?

That article encouraged me quite a bit when it comes to Marner. I was probably pretty hard on him last season (maybe? I honestly don't remember it feels like 5 years ago). But I've mentioned a couple of times since how insane it is that even in an "off" year he scored at a 1.13 PPG pace.

there is an opportunity to address that as teams find themselves out of contention (eyeballs on Johan Larsson as Arizona is lolz).

Re-thinking this one... 14-day isolation required for crossing the border likely still exists at the trade deadline, which may diminish player movement when you don't really get the player into games or even practices for a good chunk of a compressed season.
