2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Could try Ritchie as a big body with Tavares and Marner. Maybe a better fit than with Matthews. It's not like Kerfoot is moving the needle much there.

I think it's unfortunate that the way the forward group looks like it's shaking out that Ritchie may just be slightly out of place here. I think if the Leafs had kept McCann somehow then Ritchie would have been a good fit on that sort of third line but as is he doesn't really fit in as a 3rd wheel on a top 6 line or on whatever they're trying to make the 4th line do.

I still have hopes they might figure out how to use him, and that he'll play better, but it is starting to look like he has been awkwardly wedged into a group of forwards without a real defined role.

I wonder if he'll find a better fit on a line with Mikheyev ? more speed on a line, might open up a bit more space around the net?

In general I think both the 3rd and 4th line need a speedball injection right into an artery.

I really want to see Mikheyev on the top line with Matthews and Nylander and move Bunting down to the 3rd line where he can provide some energy.

Lots of season left but I'm struggling to find good shifts let alone good periods from Ritchie most nights.  I think it's pretty easy to say he has been a huge disappointment.

To be honest I haven't loved Bunting on the line with Matthews/Marner either.  I don't think he's a bad fit there but I don't think the line is playing at its best with that trio.

I don?t know if I?m noticing this for the first time or it?s new but the leafs are sponsored by tik tok? Kinda surprised me when I saw that on their helmets yesterday.

This is one of the stupidest expectations in hockey. The fact tat this is expected from kids as well is ridiculous. I have no idea what the point is or what it proves.

I?m surprised someone as young as Dubas would care about this.

Wearing a T-shirt to the rink is so unprofessional....says the physician who routinely wears T-shirt and jeans to the office.

Definitely feels like an overreaction. I mean, unless someone came in wearing a legitimately offensive shirt - in which case, they should be disciplined individually - who cares?

(Unless, of course, this directive actually came into place before the Leafs snapped their brief early season losing streak, in which case, it's a brilliant strategic decision ;D)

Going back to his very early Soo days he's also been entwined with a management philosophy that "players wear suits" for 20+ years though. Dubas is more progressive that your average GM but he's still got some "old school" hockey ideas hammered into him.

Off-topic I know but two thoughts on Cherry since it's the anniversary of his "You people" stuff.

1. Every time something controversial happens in the NHL these days, there's a little part of me that thinks "I'm glad we don't have to get the Cherry take". The Blackhawks stuff, especially.

2. It isn't great that since Cherry has been gone, the people broadcasting the game have completely failed to replace him with anything even vaguely interesting.

The best part is you know this was probably like a $600 t-shirt that was featured in GQ magazine.

Man, I can only imagine how many of these bad takes are buried in the Coach's Corner vault.

I remember when the Leafs picked Nylander.  It was the first draft that Shanahan was aboard for and it signaled a change of the old way of thinking, it came out later that Shanahan knew Michael Nylander and by extension William and thought the questions about his drive and will to win were overblown.  I recall euphoria on this board over the pick too.  We were right, Cherry, as usual, was wrong.

I remember when Don said signing Zaitsev to a 7 year deal was ridiculous and people ripped him.
I remember CBC being upset when he said, "I'd have drawn and quartered the son of a witch," when talking about Graham James getting pardoned. Good, bad, right or wrong he was entertaining most nights and said whatever was in his thoughts. Wasn't a fan or a hater so him leaving was a whatever for me.

guess you can't use the b word lol.....
