Making up for that lost partnership with Bet99 or whatever.  Now he and Mitch can have energy drink fights

Treliving has a long and extensive buyout record of UFA signings :)
Good thing there's no one to buyout. They can just send him to the Marlies.

200K penalty this year and with the cap going up it will be even less next year.  There is no incentive to buy him out.  If Reaves throws a fit, let him.  He can stay home.  He's a detriment to the team at this point.

This is the same thing in years past.  Slow start by Matthews and Marner has the team going along at about 500.  Willy and Tavares are carrying the offensive load right now.  In a couple of games Matthews and Marner will start putting up points, and the team will start to tighten up a little more defensively and that will carry them into the playoffs.  As soon as the big four go cold again though, they will be bounced.

The cap is causing this issue.  The team, the way it is constructed is great in the regular season because there is enough variance in opponent to take advantage of on most nights.  Get into a playoff series where you are playing the same team night in and night out, and they can game plan and take the stars out of the game.

If Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares get hot though in the playoffs, they'll be nigh unstoppable however.  They have a chance every year to win a cup.  Just there chance requires the superstars on the team to be unstoppable.  There is no fallback position with this team.

Just to clarify, Reaves' cap hit in the minors will be $200k even in the 2nd and 3rd year of his deal. The maximum buriable cap hit is based off the league minimum salary and that's locked in at $775k until the current CBA expires in 2026. Although yes it could feel like less with the cap increase.

I agree with all of this, except there is a fallback position, which is that Woll does a Binnington.

Whoever wrote "Hope is not a plan" was wrong.  It IS a plan.  Just not a very good plan.

Couple injury updates:

I think its still really early to trash this team. Yes some changes need to be made like giving some of the hungry Marlies a chance and sitting Reeves.  Woll, could pull of a great season and steal us a lot of wins.  I think Domi and Bert will start to integrate into the team.  Marner has to get his mind off the honeymoon and into the present.

I certainly hope they put Timmons in when he is ready. He has shown some real skill the 13 days he as healthy.

I never wanted another McCabe on this team. Trade him.

Really feel for Timmins. It's like his career just keeps happening in spurts.

Might be speaking too soon for Woll *fingers crossed*, but hopefully maybe Timmins is the Woll of the defense.

Watch when Nylander triggers his moves: almost always off the defender trying to make a play

10 games in and none of the big-4 have a 5-on-5 GF% over 50%.

I feel like that is bad. 😕

Dr. Peter Venkman : This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.

Mayor : What do you mean, "biblical"?

Dr. Raymond Stantz : What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.

Dr. Peter Venkman : Exactly.

Dr. Raymond Stantz : Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!

Dr. Egon Spengler : Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...

Winston Zeddemore : The dead rising from the grave!

Dr. Peter Venkman : Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA!

Mayor : All right, all right! I get the point!

Who replaces Lilly?  I would love to see Kokkenen up. Not sure about Lagerheed. Timmins seems a bit away.  Damn I wish we had more D depth.

Epic opener:
If the theme of the Toronto Maple Leafs? offseason acquisitions (namely Tyler Bertuzzi, Max Domi, and Ryan Reaves) was ?they got that dawg in ?em,? the theme of the first 10 games of the season would be that Sheldon Keefe has agreed, because at varying points they?ve all found themselves in the doghouse.

Probably Lajoie for the interim (who can play the off side as well), until McCabe returns. McCabe is also the guy who has provided the emotional response in previous games when necessary. Lagesson is pretty solid, but we'll have to see if he can do it consistently.

Either way, it means we are burning through Giordano and Brodie's reserves sooner than I'd like.

Is Liljegren on LTIR enough room to add both?
