Oh it wasn't a shot at him. I enjoy his quotes..Just stating the Leafs even made him look ordinary at times and he's pretty good at playing D.Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate said:Guilt Trip said:Doughty was on for all goals against yesterday....just saying. He clearly couldn't handle Matthews.
To be fair, though, he IS a brassy quote machine.
Guilt Trip said:During last night's game in Buffalo the panel on TSN was saying that the Matthews injury pretty much cost him a chance at the Rocket Richard Trophy. Last I checked, he's 6 goals behind the leader and with potentially 54 games to play does he have a shot at winning it still if healthy? I kind of think he does. The kid is unreal.

CarltonTheBear said:Laine and Ovechkin are both on pace for 60+ goals right now. And there's like half a dozen other guys on pace for 50+. We'll probably see some slow down there but gotta think that at least one player hits the 50 goal mark this season. Matthews would need to score 35 goals in 54 games to hit that, which is 0.65 goals per game. His career rate, including this season, is 0.56 goals per game. So hitting 50 goals would be pretty tough but I guess not impossible especially if this whole goal-a-game thing continues for awhile longer.
But if Laine or Ovi hit 60 then Matthews would need 45 goals in 54 games to match that. And yeah, I think we might be reaching a bit there.
Haha..He does have a point. It will def be tough. Imagine if he did win the Richard? Can anyone say 14 million a year?Zee said:CarltonTheBear said:Laine and Ovechkin are both on pace for 60+ goals right now. And there's like half a dozen other guys on pace for 50+. Hey doubter, Matthews is on pace for 72 goals this year. 8)

New Year?, sometime in Jan?
Hobbes said:What incentive would Matthews have to sign now? He's been racking up points already and now he finally gets Willy back on his wing. Every game pushes his value up and there's virtually nothing that could happen between now and July 1st that could reduce it. If I were his agent (or Marner's) I'd tell my client to play out the season and *then* talk.

That only holds if you really think the Leafs are going to fight Matthews on what he wants. If Matthews has a monster season, what would he ask for the Leafs that they wouldn't essentially give him anyway? Is he going to ask for significantly more than McDavid?
Hobbes said:Okay, but what reason is there for him to sign a deal today (the suggestion Zee made that I was replying to)? I don't see any down side to him waiting and there's a chance his play could nudge his ask higher.
