He's not a bad player, just ridiculously overpaid for what he can bring.

Who are you referring to here?

Phaneuf?  Orr?  :)

Clarkson???

I would like to see Komarov and Bolland on the team next season.  It is not only useless salary but useless players.  McClaren and Orr both dress for games and sometimes do not even fight.  On top of that, since they are in the lineup they take away roster spots from players who could actually help the team win.

When you see both Ashton and Bodie having the hockey IQ to anticipate a break away possibility as 4th liners you begin to realize chances to win we have missed with having McLaren and Orr in the line up instead.

Just to be fair here on what appears to be a dying trend.... If I'm not mistaken they have both dressed for maybe 2 games since mid-Dec?

13 games all season the last time I checked.

We are currently 10 games above .500. I am not a fan of having both Orr and McClaren in the line up either. But they are not hurting the team in the win column neither. So I dont see a big deal here. Orr was pretty good in playoffs vs Boston last spring too.

Out of 60 games for the team.  Yeah that's really not a lot to get upset over in the big picture.

I think the point being made there is less about having both in the lineup, but rather, having either in the lineup. Something I've noticed of late is that, more and more, teams aren't dressing guys who would be likely dance partners for either Orr or McLaren, and, instead, they're letting teams like the Leafs waste that lineup spot on guys that really have nothing to contribute other than their fists. Orr has had 1 fight since the start of December (20 games). McLaren has a few more, but he's healthy scratch on a regular basis. There's really no point to having either of them on the roster right now, never mind in the lineup. There are other guys on the team and in the system who can contribute and are willing to fight when the situation arises. Right now, Orr and McLaren are really just taking up space.

So let me get this straight. You guys are against Orr or McLaren dressing? How come nobody said anything before?

I don't have a problem dressing Orr or McLaren.  The Leafs need to bodyguard the Kessel line.  The concern I have is dressing them against weaker teams as in Florida where a win would have moved the Leafs higher in the standings.  If the Leafs are going to be playing teams who will be dressing their goons, then dress both.  Otherwise dress one or none and let the Leafs skill kill the that team.

Huh, what? Who? Where? How? Ummmm, what? Sorry, those days are long gone. When was the last time Kessel or Bozak were bullied?

Last game... Burrows. Kessel. Fight....

Why is this a question? Do you watch leaf games?

And I'm not saying I agree with Orr and that bunch stopping it... but your question is a little absent minded, especially since it just happened.

I would like Orr to give Kessel some pointers at least because I would really like him to pound guys like Burrows.

Not sure if Kessel was really bullied, he pushed back and defended himself quite well, more in that moment then either Sedin has ever in their whole career, and shortly after Kessel scored as well.

I don't care if that happens.  Leafs got a power play out of it.  Kessel can defend himself against players like Burrows.

It's awfully hard to be a bodyguard when you're not on the ice at the same time as the guys you're supposedly protecting and they're not on the ice against the guys you're supposedly protecting them from.

And if Kessel gets knocked out, then what? Then we are F__ked. Just saying

Then having one of those 2 in the lineup is going to make zero difference in that happening.  McLaren was in the lineup against Vancouver and it didn't stop Burrows.  This has happened what, twice this season? Both times with Burrows?  It's a non-issue really.

You mean like when Lupul got knocked out with a concussion for a couple weeks last season after being hit by two Flyers at once, one of whom was goon Jay Rosehill? McLaren and Orr were both in the line-up for that game, and it still happened. Orr fought Rosehill later in the game, but again, it still happened.

A goon isn't going to be afraid to hit a star player because he might have to fight somebody afterward. A goon is in the line-up specifically to hit other players and fight other goons.

I don't think anybody has an issue with the Leafs being a team that is hard to play against or dressing tough players.  I think the issue is that the Leafs toughest players are not good enough at playing hockey.  Bodie, Clarkson, Gleason and others like this are what the team needs, not one-trick ponies.

Yep, pretty much.

To steer the discussion back toward Bolland, I was just looking through the teams stats and noticed that he had a pretty high PIM total given how many games he played. He had 18 PIM in in 15 games. He took penalties in 7 of the 15 games he played in. He's 6th among forwards on the team in minor penalties taken.

Now, that's a very high pace so I'm sure he wouldn't have stayed on it had he continued playing. But it will be something to keep an eye on when he comes back. Especially since he might be prone to taking some more obstruction-based penalties if his skating is taken down a notch because of his injury.
