Deadline day thread

Craig Button has Phaneuf at number 3 on their trade bait tracker , but says he would have been shocked if he had of been moved??

I've never liked Crag Button.

I liked when he criticized the Leafs for trading Winnik for a 2nd and 4th round draft pick because they didn't get anything back that helps them immediately.

Leafs media man getting the spin underway ....

Never ceases to amaze me how Hendrick can put a positive spin on anything Leafs.

If they made all those trades today instead of over the last few weeks, it seems like people would be happier. Even though the result is the exact same.

And again, I don't even get what the "positive spin" is?  I'm not a Hendrick fan, but he listed the players traded/acquired and said draft week could be fun (it could - I'm sure we're all looking forward to it).  Don't see what the "spin" is?

Thanks for the interesting posts crew. I am done with this until lottery/draft time. I can't really stomach to watch my team through this dreary final stretch, maybe if they call up Brown or Nylander or someone I may tune in a bit. I've been a die hard all my life and actually saw their last cup, but the effort this year - or lack therefore - just pukes me out...

And to be honest.  Even if the Leafs did trade Kessel/JVR/Lupul/Phaneuf today, the draft week would still be really fun as we anticipate who to draft.

The nice thing about trade deadline day is that you could potentially snipe a 16-20th overall pick by trading to a team that loses in the 1st round.  The flip side is that a team like Calgary maybe trades away their pick at the draft when they won't at the deadline becuase they worry that they might miss the playoffs and end up throwing away a lottery pick.

I'll make a prediction: at least one more "big" name from the core goes tomorrow.

Aaaaaaaaaand as usual I pulled a great big Nostradam-ass.

Keeping this sh*tty core intact till the end of the season is probably the way to go.  These losers have given up, and are just floating for the rest of the year.  If you trade veterans and bring up young guys from the Marlies who actually TRY, you may win games down the stretch.  :o

I'm a little disappointed we didn't get one of the core guys outta dodge today. At the same time, I have a little more faith in management after these past couple of weeks, so I firmly believe they exhausted all opportunities today and felt like the price wasn't right, I'm sure they'll shake things up come the draft.

It's partly the pattern of listening to him all these years.

He's a Leafs employee - paid by LeafsTV.

The media is supposed to be the great arbitrator for democracy. Even in sports media, it's kind of nice to get "the truth".

But nearly every press conference, this shell of a human, paid by MLSE, has to and gets to ask leading, softball questions - putting the best face on a Leafs story with a leading question into the media discussion - as if he's part of the media in general (unless the public know as some of us do, he's a shill).

It's deceptive behavior having one of their own employees behaving as if he's a media guy like anyone else in a press scrum just asking a question. And unlike the others in the media, he nearly always gets to ask his question - and often it's the first question to help set the tone. Periodically, the practice bugs me - partly because he's a bit of a nerd, partly because it's just plain dishonest or sleazy practice and partly because his questions always have the same slant to them and I find it all somewhat insulting and tiresome.

You have a point.  Any youngsters who would have had to be brought on are going to give more of an effort than this bunch.  If the tank, ain't broke, don't fix it?
