So CBC has Montreal game on here in Edmonton, yet NHL Gamecenter has me in a blackout area as well. Awesome.

Lame. You can stream the game online though through CBC.ca:

Except it's not working right now.  >:(

It's working now for me.  Watch for if you have adblock or anything though.

I think it just had to wait for puck drop before it became active.

Well, if you don't care about winning games, I suppose.

That's not how I explained it at all. Again, McLaren's goals in those games shouldn't be any more valuable than any of the other goals scored in them.

A GWG supposedly shows how clutch a player is, right? Well are we going to say that McLaren is as clutch as Kessel? And more clutch than Kadri?

Guys, save your fingers -- I get all that stuff re GWGs and you're right.  The fact that this guy has any at all is the point.

You really shouldn't have that low of an expectation for a NHL regular.

KOmarov has no offense - HA, HA

Who was saying that?  2nd person I've seen mention that.  But really, he doesn't provide much offense - 82 game pace of ~15 points.  That's fine, though, not a criticism at all.

Look, the fact that McLaren has ANY goals is kind of amazing considering his TOI.  I just don't get the bashing.

We are arguing about who should play in future games.  In other words, we are trying to predict who is more likely to help the team win.  Looking at GWG tells us something about what unfolded in past games, but it is a terrible, terrible stat to use to try to predict what will happen in the future, which is what we care about right now.

I predict that playing Frattin over Orr is much more likely to help us win in the future because the best way to make such predictions is to look at the shot differentials when a player is on the ice and to adjust for things like offensive zone start percentage and quality of competition (which can be measured, or at least approximated) --- and Frattin crushes Orr when it comes to all such metrics.  That isn't because Frattin is super-awesome or anything. It's more because Orr is just terrible.  Again, nothing against the guy -- it's just that he's not so good at hockey.
