Game 43: Leafs @ Capitals - Apr. 16, 7:00pm - TSN, TSN 1050

I really hope they get blown out at this point.  8 or 9 nothing.  Wake the team the heck up.

Also, I hope Ovechkin scores another 2-3 goals and goes on to score 800+ in his career.

Turning to the Jays tonight.  Johnson is throwing well and the Leafs are completely disinterested.

Disinterested? This is how they've played all year.

Normally I try to ignore your hyperbole and vitriol, but this is just not true. the Leafs have played many spirited games with intensity and effort this season.

worse game of the season. zero passion. should have lost last night. losing tonight rightfully. got by Montreal...three lousy games. hopefully this is not a trend.

Effort isn't the problem. The problem is the Capitals can move the puck around defenders and score goals. if you let them have the puck the ENTIRE game, that's what's going to happen. Their effort LOOKS poor because Washington always has the puck, and Washington always has the puck because the Leafs are more concerned with playing defence than pressing any kind of attack.

You can't just dismiss every single loss as poor effort.

Seeing as the Leafs only played about 6 minutes last night, you would think they would bother to show up.  Good thing Carlyle sent a message by taking out that bum Matt Frattin.

And MacArthur.  Not like we need some players who can play offensively.
Frattin - 1pt in 12 games, MacArthur - 1pt in last 6. Not much offense from those two.

Players slump.  They play a far more complete game than either Orr or McLaren.  You can even then spread the ice time out more evenly, especially on a back to back.

EDIT: Orr has 1 point in 20 games. McLaren has 2 in 18.  At least MacArthur & Frattin are players that have skill beyond fighting and lucking their way into a couple points every now and then.  Way better options if you're just going to healthy scratch them.

The thing is, you can't compare Orr and Mclaren to them. They have very specific roles on this
team and coach values their contribution. To Carlyles credit, he is taking us to playoffs so his game plans and line ups are working. Yes i know last two games are ugly but overall its a very solid season. I don't mind at all having Orr and Mclaren in line up. The way Frattin have been playing and Looking at this game, I can't imagine how him or MacArthur could have done anything to spark this team or create any offense. They also generally play well when whole team plays well.

Because they aren't very good and playing them over those players is pointlessly making the team worse.  Those 2 are just plain better hockey players than either of those two.  Carlyle has been forced to give them easy minutes in the offensive zone because they can't be trusted defensively.  If you're upset at MacArthur/Frattin then play them on the 4th line.

I know it's not going to change at this point but anyways....

Well, second half of a back to back, against one of the hotter teams in the league...only so much you can expect.

And we thought Reimer was left hung out to dry last night.... Scrivens has it even worse against a far more dangerous team.

Not to make excuses here, but how come it seems like the leafs haven't played anyone on the tail end of a back to back this year?

The flip side.  In two rather lackluster games in a row.  What have McLaren/Orr done to spark the team?  It's great that these two have staged fights at meaningless points in the game.  When is the last time they got in a fight to spark a comeback and get the team going?  I honestly can't think of one.
