Game 47: MTL @ TOR - Jan. 21 - 7:00pm - CBC

The hallmark of the Ron Wilson era is the Leafs only win games when they don't mean anything. The last season 2nd half run came with no pressure cause the playoffs were realistically out of reach. Now in the most important stretch of the year, where a good run can get us a playoff spot, Leafs lose 4 out of 5. Great.

Oh and Clarke MacArthur, WTF dude?  Been terrible lately... Giveaways, missing the net time and time again, weak passes... Very bad stretch.

He should have been traded last year. Everyone should have seen this coming. I never liked MacArthur. In fact a friend of mine and I have an ongoing argument about him. I'm winning.

I was thinking the same thing tonight.  He's lost out there.

I'm so sick of these terrible efforts against bad teams. We'll probably have another long summer to think about it.

I don't think it's a question of playing bad teams. Personally I don't think we are much better than them. I don't think we are as good as some here think. There is parity in the league now. With a hot roll we can move right up in the conference and with a losing streak we can be right near the bottom and I'm not saying either can't happen. Your right though the effort stinks and like I posted earlier seem to be seeing too much of that lately. Team has no killer instinct, how to put teams away. Furthermore I think we are becoming easy to play against. No toughness at all. Should be taking it to these guys. Another PP big deal. Healy blaming it on the break earlier in the period and Price has been the difference maker. What have the Leafs thrown at him. Pretty easy to stop shots with no one around you. Pathetic and you're probably right another long summer. Well one bright spot with that Wilson may be gone.

Well I made that comment based purely on the standings. I said back in November that the Leafs would be out of the playoffs by January, so you're right I don't think the Leafs are that much better. The Leafs have squandered a lot of points this year against teams that, according to the standings, they should beat. And it's not just a matter of beating them all the time. I realize that teams are going to lose games to teams below them, now more than ever. It's the timing of it that's so bad right now. They had a real chance here at home to get on a roll and make up some ground but probably more importantly, to put distance between them and the bottom so that they could afford to drop a few games here and there. Efforts like this are just making it harder and harder on themselves. There's no excuse for it. At home, facing a team that played the night before, having a terrible season, and it's your biggest historical rival.

I'll give some credit to the Canadiens. They did a good job eliminating the Leafs speed, which just highlights the fact that the Leafs have no ability to adapt their game, and THAT'S why they are not a playoff team.

I agree with you 100%. I said way back that I liked what Burke has done with the team and some of his trades especially with some of the younger prospects we added but we have a ways to go. I don't expect them to win every night but I can't take efforts like tonight and in the situation with the back to back for the Habs like you said and rivalry this was inexcusable.

It is just time for Wilson to go, I mean come on.

And Burke, WTF dude?  Your teams continually stink.

I have always said he's over rated. Right place at the right time. Another overpayment by Burke. Should have let him walk. I'd rather see Frattin on the 2nd or 3rd line.

A coaching change right now might actually be a shock to the Leafs and wake them up for a good run. Of course that means Burke won't do it.

Oh enough already on the coach.  :P

Season is slipping away. 3 points out of 8th now and Leafs have to sweep the back to back against Isles. Pressure is on and I've seen how this team responds to pressure. Chalk up one win for the Isles.

And if the Isles win the first half, I fear going into NY when they know they play huge spoilers.

The leafs are just way too soft up front...other then the 4th line, no one else takes the body consistently on the forecheck so they do not intimidate the opposing D whatsoever.
I would rather see guys like Frattin and Boyce in the line-up who provide a little more jam.
I dont know if Kessel is made of glass but he really seems to go out of his way to make sure he doesnt rub shoulders with anyone during the game.

You're not a RW fan and you're in favour of a move. Have been for a loooooooong time. Noted.  8)

Did you not see the montage earlier in the broadcast of Kessel getting knocked around? He can take it. Maybe he wants to avoid it so he doesn't get hurt? Personally, I'd rather he play 82 games than get involved in too much physical stuff. Can you imagine how bad this team would be without him? Colby Armstrong's good vibes can only do so much...

I didn't even mention Wilson in that post you quoted.

Now that you mention it though...

You should be limited to a weekly Wilson rant... Have at it every Tuesday or something.  ;)

Everyone will be on board if we miss the playoffs again this season. That one year contract extension will look like a shrewd move by Burke. "miss the playoffs for 4 years --> get extension"

It's stuff like this that gives the rest of the league such good comedy material when they want to make fun of the Leafs.

Wait Washington is back in 8th only a point up on Leafs. Forget everything I just said, not as dire as I thought. LOL

I'm going to bed.

No I missed that, personally I would rather see him assert himself a little more without the puck.  There are a lot of coaches in the league that would not put up with aspects of his game....like in his own end standing still and reaching for pucks instead of using better body position to win battles along the wall
