Game 9 - Leafs @ Rangers - Thursday Oct 27th 2011 - 19:00 EST - 4-2 Win

Well, it would appear that either Phil Kessel is no Jaromir Jagr or Henrik Lundqvist is no Jonas Gustavsson . . . or both. Probably both.

Another thing on those breakaways - Jagr was on his off-wing, so with the left-handed shot he had more of the net to shoot at.  Kessel has never had a good forehand-to-backhand, and a righty, coming down the right side, has more of the net shut off to him.

I suppose that would depend on your definition of patience.  I speculate that he's got another 2 or 3 starts...if he stinks it up, he's waived.

Just so I have you right you're suggesting the back up goalie's worth should be determined at the 10-12 game mark? Maybe I'm not really asking for much more, maybe he stinks it up and Wilson pulls a trigger, however, that bullet can't go back and Burke will have to come up with something to diminish/assuage perspective on a player he travelled to Sweden for on July !st?

Like I said, I'm speculating here, but I don't think this team has much time to be patient with a backup goalie...whether it be warranted or not.

Well, best guess, Wilson and Burke are probably aware of that too and if you're right we should see some kind of change in short order, if not I think that says something too.

This game full of BS calls. How can you put your hand on the puck in the paint and not have it called? That was close to going in.

I don't know why that wasn't a penalty.

I think it's probably because it wasn't particularly clear at any point that he'd actually stopped the puck.

Well, I didn't see the first period, but for me the Leafs were the better team in that second period and unlucky not to be ahead.

Some tilt by Brown. Gus looking good.

Wait though, we're giving Scrivens Sunday so Goose has... one more game?!?

I broke the dam!!!!

Well, yeah, but, that's also 3 consecutive starts and 5 straight games. Enough to make a pretty fair assessment.

Betcha the Leafs didn't intend on that but I also just can't get my head around sloughing Goose off, or a lot of nhl players really while he's healthy after 5 games. If he lets in 10 in the third or doesn't get a Howe-trick ok but man that's some tough sledding.

He covered a lose puck in the blue paint with both hands, and then shielded it with his body... that would be fine... for a Goalie!

Then why did they blow the whistle if the puck wasn't stopped?

Because they lost sight of it when it was under him, I assume. Certainly not the first time a ref has blown a quick whistle in that situation and I don't think you compound the mistake with a penalty shot.
