Minnesota placed Konopka on waivers today. Could we possibly see a McLaren-Konopka-Orr line?

With those 3, we wouldn't want to see them out for more than 3 or 4 minutes a night. Konopka can win face-offs, though, so, he'd probably get like 15 minutes a night.

Well in 01-02 he did have 21 more points in the OHL then Tim Gleason.

The Leafs have 5 ROW in their last 29 games, 3 in their last 20. If it wasn't for the shootout, the Leafs would be out of the playoffs already.

Pat Quinn - 574GP 300W 196L 78 T/OTL/SOL    Average 97 points
Paul Maurice -164GP 76W 66L 22 T/OTL/SOL    Average 87 points
Ron Wilson - 310GP 130W 135L 45 T/OTL/SOL  Average 80 points
Randy Carlyle - 109GP 53W 43L 13 T/OTL/SOL  Average 89 points

If we go under the old system of W-L-OT

Pat Quinn    574GP    297-190-81  - 96 point pace
Paul Maurice  164GP  71-66-27      - 84.5 point pace
Ron Wilson    310GP  117-135-62    - 78 point pace
Randy Carlyle 109GP  45-43-21        - 83.5 point pace

Pat Quinn's teams were laced mostly with high end veteran talent. Carlyle's squads in Toronto have been among the youngest in the league. THAT'S your difference.

When Quinn took over as coach for the 98-99 season, the core players for the Leafs were about the same age as the current core players and most of the roster were in their early to mid 20s, just like the current Leafs. There were 5 defencemen 24 or younger that played at least 35 games for the team that season.

Lines at practice:

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Raymond-Kadri-Lupul
D'Amigo-McClement-Kulemin
McLaren-Holland-Orr

In the last 4 games the top line has accounted for 8 of our goals, and the rest of the line-up has accounted for 2 of them. Clearly that 2nd unit isn't working, the 3rd line with McClement rarely creates any offence ever, and the 4th line doesn't get enough ice-time to produce even with a couple of decent players on it (D'Amigo and Holland). The lines need to be changed. That's painfully obvious.

Serioulsly?  They went with the same lineup that sucked last night except add McLaren?

The M.O. this season really feels like it's "If it ain't broke, fix it. If it's broke, don't."

One thing that bugs me is when defending, two players are sent to pressure the puck carrier in the corner.  And most times we don't come up with puck, creating an odd man situation elsewhere in the d zone giving teams times and space to set up what they want to do.  Now I'm more a soccer guy than a hockey guy but I've watched hockey for years and I though the principles of defending are generally the same.

1) Pressure the attacker 1v1 to slow him down
2) 2nd defender provides passive support in case the defender gets beat or steals the resulting lose puck.
3) Allow/Trust the 1st defender to do his job, overcommit to protect him and you've screwed yourself.

Just something I see in the zone that sits wrong with me and it makes the other teams offense look stanley cup quality

How on earth does Holland deserve that?  Did he sleep with Carlyle's wife or something?

It's not like his game has tailed off or something, like say, I don't know...Kadri.

Obvious observation... Kadri and Holland need to do a switch-a-roo.

Because Carlyle seems to refuse to break up the ineffective 3rd line and put McClement on the 4th line. As long as that's the case, one of the team's other centres is going to be stuck on the 4th line between two guys that shouldn't be in the NHL.
