With the Leafs goaltending, that D probably wouldn't be any worse than what it is now. And then we'd have the added bonus of getting out from under those cap hits, instead of praying Gleason regains his old form.

If the Leafs had used their amnesty buyout on Liles instead of Komisarek, they would be 39 games away from clearing both contracts.
@So_Truculent
Instead, they've got $4M of Carolina-washout Tim Gleason for 3 years
That first option seems so much better right now. If Gleason can regain some form, great, and that would mitigate it - but the Leafs could have just allocated those funds elsewhere with a better use of the buyouts.

Well, you could also argue that they could have just played Liles from the get-go. It's not like they have a bunch of guys back there who are head and shoulders above him.
To speculate, Komisarek might of brought personal issues to the team that the Leafs didn't want to see rubbing off on other players? I honestly think when you're paid millions to be a Leaf, your name shouldn't be coming up on TMZ.Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate said:Potvin29 said:@So_Truculent

Getting rid of both contracts is probably more valuable to the team right now, IMO.

I've been having the same thought since last week. Leadership needs to take control if indeed the players are having a difficult time with Carlyle. They need to have that meeting and plan how to rise to the occasion aside of any ill will towards the coach that may be going on and let the coach bury himself.
If they don't, it's equally their own fault in my opinion with the coach. They get paid a lot of money to play at a high level, that comes with this responsibility, no?

Well, that is encouraging, but I think Joe was referring to the Sundin closed door type meeting where the players go in as a team and come out sworn to secrecy of what went on in the room.

It was nice to have a coach that at least understood where the game was heading instead of being stuck in the past. It really really was.

I can kind of see the 13th player being this type, but having two take up cap space and roster spots is just blatantly asinine. I'm surprised that this error hasn't been rectified yet.
Also, if it wasn't known before last night that Fraser is no longer an NHL defenseman, it should most definitely be known now after his play in last night's game.
